Location Mae Sot (between Mae Sot Villa and Ban Nuea)
Type Full time = 26 hours contact time (through English)
Working hours 8.30am – 12.30pm x 5 days per week
1.30pm – 3.30pm x 2 afternoons per week with group of 3 older children
Age range 3 – 6 years old
No of Children 9 children
We are a group of six families that have come together since May 2014 with a similar desire to see our children play and learn together in a positive learning environment. We have nine children ranging from three to six years of age. At present, we have a teacher who coordinates with the parents / guardians, organizes daily child-centered learning activities, including creative development of age-appropriate games and takes the lead in organizing monthly presentations by the children to the parents / guardians. The current teacher needs to return home in January 2015, we are now looking for a new teacher to replace her.
More specifically, this person would
Teach basic skills such as color, shape, number and letter recognition, early literacy (mix of whole language and phonics), personal hygiene, and social skills; In doing so, attention would be given to the diversity of the ages of children involved.
In collaboration with parents, provide a variety of materials and resources for children to explore, manipulate, and use, both in learning activities and in imaginative play.
Read books to the group
Prepare materials and other indoor and outdoor spaces to facilitate creative play, learning and motor-skill activities, and safety.
Organize and lead activities designed to promote physical, mental, and social development such as games, arts and crafts, music, and storytelling.
Establish and enforce rules for behavior to maintain order among children.
Prepare children for formal schooling by encouraging them to explore learning opportunities and to persevere with challenging tasks.
Involve parents and older kids in younger children's activities, to facilitate involvement in focused, complex play.
Meet with parents and guardians to discuss their children's progress, and to determine their priorities for their children and their resource needs.
Observe and inform parents on children's performance, behavior, social development, and physical health.
Provide disabled students and students with learning disabilities the support they need assistance accessing facilities such as restrooms.
Instruct and monitor children in the use and care of equipment and materials, to prevent injuries and damage.
Help parents to identify and analyze home-schooling learning materials and choose the one(s) best suiting a multi-age group of children.
Confer with parents to plan and schedule lessons promoting learning, following agreed upon “learning plan”. Suggest to parents appropriate testing and grading system for older children.
To do above, the ideal teacher would need to:
Qualified kindergarten teacher
Be committed to our Child Protection guidelines
Be willing to have a background check done
Commit for at least 6 months (subject to review)
Have experience with conducting early childhood learning & playing activities (e.g. Montessori)
Be creative, imaginative, flexible, knowing that the children belong to different ages and different exposures to formal and informal education
Be able to conduct a variety of home-schooling teaching activities by use of different materials, techniques and learning plans
Organize, develop and prioritize the home-schooling activities
Be a self-starter, with lots of initiative and creativity
Salary range 15,000 – 20,000 baht per month (depending on qualifications and experience)
Budget of 2,000 baht per month towards teaching and learning materials
