General Objective

CBM is an international development organisation whose primary purpose is to improve the quality of life of the world’s poorest persons with disabilities and those at risk of disability. CBM works with partner organisations in low income countries to develop and ensure that persons with disabilities and their families have ready access to affordable and comprehensive health care and rehabilitation programmes, quality education programmes and livelihood opportunities. Working with persons with disabilities, CBM advocates for their inclusion in all aspects of society, and for the inclusion of disability in international cooperation.


Position Objective

Reporting to Operations Manager, but maintaining close links to staff in different team/department across region.  The job holder is responsible to increase efficiency and accuracy of financial reporting timely as well as meeting donor requirements.  The job holder makes a substantial contribution to (a) ensure compliance with general accepted accounting principles and CBM standard procedures and b) provide suggestions, inputs, feedback and/or training to ASC staff and partners where necessary.


Position Requirements

Education Qualification and Work Experience:

Relevant academic degree or further qualification

Knowledge in accounting software and accounting principles

3-5 years experience in area of financing/accounting

Experience in/or involvement in auditing

Experience in financial reporting for different donors

Experience in providing training to different stakeholders

Knowledge and experience working in International NGOs


Other Competencies and Skills Requirements:

Excellent communication skills in both oral and written English

Ability to work under time pressure and meet deadlines

Proven good organising and managing resources

Confident in dealing with people from different backgrounds

Willingness to travel occasionally

Strong team player

Ability to work with Microsoft office applications

Willingness to work long hours and/or weekend when necessary


Duties and Responsibilities

Prepare payments, generate cheques and submit to authorized persons for signature.

Prepare, examine, and analyze accounting records, financial statements, and other financial reports to assess accuracy and completeness.

Ensures that all bank transactions conform to the agreed banking contracts, controls and arrangements.

Monitor daily bank balances to ensure that issued cheques and transfers are adequately funded.

Examine monthly financial reports from Country Coordination Offices and provide feedback.

Perform monthly reconciliation, closing of books of accountants and prepare appropriate reports.

Oversee project financial/account matters and provide guidelines and suggestions.

Prepare cash flow forcasts in consultation with Operations Manager.

Provide financial training to regional CBM team and/or partners on CBM financial formats/forms, reporting and monitoring systems.

Establish tables of accounts, and assign entries to appropriate accounts following CBM guidelines/structures.

Develop, maintain, and analyze budgets, preparing periodic MIS reports monthly.

Prepare financial checklists and alert management of possible fraud or lack of accuracy in financial accounts submitted by partners/ CBM country and regional offices.

Ensure complete preparation of annual audit for the RO office and follow-up recommendations made.

Oversee preparation of annual audit for CBM country offices.

Carry out other tasks as may be required for smooth running of the office.
