Position: Accounting Assistant (1 open position: only for Thai citizen)

Handicap International that runs its program under the operating name Humanity & Inclusion (HI) seeks for an Accounting Assistant for Thailand site. Based office is in Mae Sot .

HI is an independent and impartial aid and development organization working in situations of poverty and exclusion, conflict and disaster. We work alongside disabled and vulnerable people to help meet their essential needs, improve their living conditions and promote respect for their dignity and fundamental rights. HI implements 4 projects in Thailand alongside Thai-Burma border:

     a) Risk Education in 9 camps,

     b) Disability and Social Inclusion in 5 camps,

     c) Rehabilitation project in 5 camps and

     d) Growing Together project in 7 camps as well.


All projects implemented alongside Thailand-Burmese border are enrooted into the Myanmar & Thailand Regional Program Strategy for the period 2018-2020.

The strategy aims at working alongside refugees’ people with disabilities and other vulnerable groups, responding to their essential needs, improving their living conditions and promoting respect for their dignity and fundamental rights.


All projects are managed by designated manager coached by the Operational Manager, Country Manager, Thailand. Thailand mission is supported by the Regional team in Yangon for all issues related to logistic, administration, finance and accountancy as well as Technical issues.



GENERAL MISSION: The Accounting Assistant, under direct supervision of the Finance Manager, ensures that the cash box and cash log books are perfectly maintained, as well as monthly accounting report and archiving of accounting documents with respect with HI and donors rules, procedures and deadlines. 



  1. Guarantee/ensure that the accounts are kept in good order

Aim: The programme’s book keeping conforms to accounting norms, internal procedures and the timeframes fixed


  • Records all cash transactions in adherence to HI/Donor policies and procedures. Assure eligibility of expenses in accordance with the commitment of expenditures procedures;
  • Records all cash transactions ensuring appropriate documentations and approvals are obtained. Check and code expenses in accordance with HI approved Chart of Accounts and standardized norm;
  • Responsible in the generation of the monthly accounting report (hard copy and soft copy) of the mission to be submitted to Regional HI Office in Yangon according to the deadline. Ensure that a complete set copy of the report will be retained and maintained a proper filling for the mission and make it easily accessible in case of audit by both HI for internal control and Donors;
  • Uploading of scanned financial documents on Filezilla Program.
  • Monitor and reconcile advances for approval of finance Manager
  • Support the finance Manager for the mid-year and year-end accounting closures;
  • Send extraction of monthly accounts to Finance Manager for monthly checking;
  • Alert the supervisor in case of non-compliance of parts before payment or repayment and non-respect of expenditure commitment procedures.


  1. Manage the cash flow

Aim: Optimal management of the cash flow and availability of funds are secured 


  • Accountable in the daily update of the cash box logbooks in hand-written that should show the balance at any given moment;
  • Based on the daily cash disbursements, facilitate petty cash replenishment and weekly cash count with the Finance Manager; going to bank to withdraw money in conformity with security rules;
  • Upon approval from Finance Manager, facilitate transfer funds to corresponding accounts that requires funding using the cash flow forecast as the reference document;
  • Prepares all cash receipts for incoming wire/ Donor’s transactions;
  • Check accounting codes are noted on payment authorisation form.


  1. Manage Cash Box

        Aim: Ensure cash box safety, management and follow up


  • Be responsible for the Mae Sot office Petty Cash Fund and other cash currencies accounts;
  • Ensure a daily cash inventory, and report any variance to the line manager;
  • Prepares all vouchers and checks thoroughly and correctly for every transaction. Verify vouchers to ensure that they are in order, supporting documents are completed and verify the photocopies in preparation of the monthly accounting report;
  • Proceed to the payment of the invoices, after verification of the validated vouchers slips (refer to previous point);
  • Proceed to opening and liquidation of advances (service, travel etc.) upon presentation of the validated documents;
  • Proceed to the payment of the Camp based staff allowance after verification of the validated documentations



Education: At least diploma in accounting or Business Administration or equivalent certification

Experiences:  Minimum 2 years of Finance/Accounting management, Experience working with NGOs, civil society organization especially those working along Thai-Burma border will be an advantage;

Knowledge of main donors’ rules and regulations


Technical Skills & Cross Cutting Skills: Solid knowledge of accounting and financial principles, Excellent organisational skills capacity to achieve tangible and quality results on time, Proficiency in Excel and good knowledge of other Software (Word, PP, etc.), Capacity of analysis and attention to details, Proactive and dynamic, Able to work under pressure, Proven capacity building skills, Problem solving attitude

Excellent communication skills in English and Thai

Behavioral Skills: Active listening, sense of negotiation, self-initiative, adaptation skills, ability to create team spirit and to support team building, autonomy in work and experience in accompanying a team and finding practical solutions.






Remuneration: Starting from 17,680Baht depending on the experience of the candidate.  Attractive package with possibility of transportation, accommodation allowance.
