Appointment of an Executive Director for MMF

The Mekong Minority Foundation (MMF) is a locally registered Thai, Christian foundation that has been serving minority groups in the Mekong Sub-Region since 2004.   With this advertisement MMF is now looking for a new Executive Director to lead the organization.  Based in Chiang Rai the new Executive Director will:

 

Continue to consolidate MMF after a period of change and then take it into the next stage of its development here in the Greater Mekong Sub-Region;

Ensure that MMF contributes to education and discipleship of youth; and to the development of the leadership, management and professional skills of the increasing ethnic minority Christian communities in N. Thailand (and the Greater Mekong Sub-Region); thus enabling them to engage in the transformational development of their communities. 

Provide strategic leadership to MMF’s work in building capacity of the students, organizations and communities with which MMF partners.  In particular this work is in the areas of community mobilization and empowerment, education, and the mobilization of churches to engage in integral mission within their communities.

Job Description for Executive Director of MMF

TITLE:                      Executive Director (ED)

ORGANIZATION:   Mekong Minority Foundation (MMF)

REPORTS TO:         MMF Board (specifically the Chair of the Board)

 

SUMMARYFUNCTION:                                                                                                                    

As a mature Christian, the Executive Director (ED) of MMF provides leadership and management to ensure fulfillment of the organizational Vision and Mission of MMF, and to work according to the Values of MMF.The ED represents MMF to local partner organizations and churches, donor partners, the government and public organizations; and implements the decisions of the Board.

ROLE DESCRIPTION –

The ED will lead the organization through -

Providing Servant Leadership, Leadership Development, and Team Building:  The ED leads and demonstrates servant leadership, develops new leadership, and builds the MMF team.   An important part of leading is providing a mature spiritual climate within which MMF’s work will operate.  This includes helping the MMF team to develop a common vision, and encouraging the spiritual and professional growth among the staff.

Managing and building interactive relationships with the Board.  The ED is responsible to the Board for the overall finances, communication, information and personnel within MMF – including recruitment and dismissal of staff.

Maintaining and Refining Organizational Direction:  The ED ensures that all activities within MMF are consistent with MMF’s Vision, Mission, Values, policies and procedures; and also with the Strategic Plan which is approved by the Board. 

Developing Sustainability:  The ED intentionally strives to recruit and develop personnel, to develop relationships with donor partners, and to develop fundraising procedures that will help MMF to be sustainable in the years ahead.

Managing and building constructive and sustainable relationships with the Christian community within Thailand and further afield, with the Thai government, and with local partner communities.

SPECIFIC DUTIES of the ED: 

Provide leadership towards fulfilling the Vision and Mission statement and building upon the foundational values of the organization, including a personal life that seeks to model Christ.

Ensure preparation of draft strategic long-range plans including input and approval from the Board. 

Seek to ensure that MMF has adequate financial and human resources to operate in the present the future.

Take personal responsibility in the area of fund-raising and general financial development of the organization, including the development of relationships with various funding organizations, foundations and donor partners.

Ensure that organization policies and procedures are followed.

Ensure that all Job Descriptions are current.

Supervise the Team Leaders of MMF and to evaluate the same in writing on a semi- annual basis.

Work with Team Leaders to ensure that goals and objectives are clearly understood and being met.

Work with Team Leaders to recruit, hire, and supervise staff based on personnel policy and job descriptions, and to terminate employment of staff as needed. 

Assume responsibility for any crisis or security situations as they arise.

Ensure that all employees are encouraged and given resources needed to accomplish their job duties.

To delegate all responsibility and authority to staff that is needed to fulfill the Vision and Mission of MMF.

Demonstrate a sincere interest in the personal lives of the staff while encouraging their spiritual, professional, and social development.

Pray regularly for staff.

Contribute to the public relations activities of the organization, specifically including speaking engagements, interviews, writings, and other broad contributions to the public awareness and knowledge of MMF.

Supervise Administration Team Leader regarding budgeting, use of funds, accounting, and financial reporting to Donor Partners.

Work with Team Leaders and Accountant to ensure that project spending and project activities are according to the agreement with the Donor Partner.

Supervise Team Leaders in preparation of project proposals and reports, and to ensure that Donor Partners receive proposals and reports according to the format and schedule agreed upon with the Donor Partner.   

 

PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS (Person Specifications)

Thai citizen who is a mature Christian and is either from an ethnic minority or who has a heart to serve ethnic minority people..

Able to provide spiritual leadership to people from diverse people groups and different Christian traditions

Good communication skills in Thai and English – listening, verbal and written.

Previous experience in the management of a Development Organization. 

Academic Credentials - Completion of at least a Bachelor’s Degree.

Effective in managing people and solving problems.

Strength in networking and building relationships.

Ability to communicate effectively with wide variety of parties, including the MMF Board, local partners, churches, government agencies, donor partners, etc.

Valid Thai Driver’s License

 

ADDITIONAL PREFERRED (but not required) QUALIFICATIONS

Language proficiency in other languages (i.e. ethnic minority languages, Chinese, Burmese, etc.)

Previous experience and/or a strong desire to engage in Church and Community Mobilization.

 

Compensation/Support:

This position will be paid at a rate comparable to similar Christian foundations in the area.
