Baan Dek Foundation (BDF) is a non-profit, non-political and non-religious organization based in Bangkok and Chiang Mai. BDF's currently provides access to education, health, and child protection services to over 1,800 vulnerable children living in urban slums and construction site camps in Thailand. Through its direct service provision programs and systemic impact strategy, BDF protects and empowers marginalized children and their families to become more self-sustainable, and provides opportunities for a better future.

POSITION SUMMARY

BDF is currently seeking a Program Manager for the Women Empowerment Program (WEP) to lead the design, implementation, and evaluation of BDF’s initiatives aimed at empowering vulnerable women. This role is instrumental in promoting gender equality and empowering vulnerable women. The Program Manager will be responsible for developing strategic plan, and implementing project activities together with rest of the team. The Program Manager will also work closely with members from other relevant departments and Dao Ethical Gifts (DEG) to achieve the targeted project outcomes. 

 

Job Description

Job Title: Women Empowerment Program Manager

Type of Contract: Full-time employment position (long-term contract)

Department: Program Department

Report to: Director of Programs

Location: Chiang Mai, Thailand (with occasional work trips to Bangkok)

Expected Start Date: 15 June 2023 or ASAP

 

Role and responsibilities include but are not limited to

Program Development, Coordination, and Supervision of the Women Empowerment Program (WEP):

  • Identify women in need of support, conduct needs-assessment, and develop impactful sustainable solutions to improve their situation. This also includes carrying out outreach activities and developing relationships with the beneficiaries.

  • Design and implement comprehensive projects related to women empowerment that closely align with BDF’s mission and objectives. Closely supervise the execution of the projects to ensure that the targeted goals are achieved timely and effectively.

  • Work together with the Senior Management Team, Program Quality and M&E Coordinators to create and develop appropriate tools to address the needs of the communities. Ensure that all projects are conducted in accordance with BDF’s Child Protection Policy, ethical standards and best practices.

  • Support the Senior Management Team by contributing to BDF’s overall strategy and vision. 

  • Provide assistance to carry out any task as per the needs of the organization and the Senior Management Team.

  • Lead and manage the Women Empowerment team, provide guidance and support to ensure effective implementation of project activities. 

 

Project Implementation, Monitoring, and Reporting: 

  • Develop monitoring and evaluation frameworks for the program, consistently track progress, analyze data, and generate reports for stakeholders. This also includes using existing information and making adjustments to programs as and when necessary.

  • Develop and implement a Detail Implementation Plan (DIP) and risk management plan for all projects related to WEP. 

  • Manage the overall budget of the program. 

  • Prepare and coordinate field and research activities and work with other program teams to implement project activities. 

  • Design and implement activities and tools (such as training modules and curriculum) dedicated to improving the living situation of beneficiaries' and increasing their autonomy in the future.

  • Work with the Program Quality and M&E Coordinators to develop a monitoring system for the Women Empowerment Program.

  • Complete quantitative and qualitative data monitoring of BDF’s activities, follow monitoring and evaluation system and support in communicating information regarding the beneficiaries within the team.

  • Follow-up and report on the action plan prepared by the trained beneficiaries and monitor the progress of the action plan.

  • Provide monthly highlights to the Senior Management Team.

  • Lead administrative, legal, and financial tasks related to the program (with support from respective departments).

 

Partnership Development: 

  • Establish and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including community leaders, government agencies, NGOs, and donors. Collaborate with these partners to expand the reach and impact of the program.

  • Identify and establish network and partner with relevant local and international  stakeholders, service providers. Coordinate to identify the most appropriate and effective services and solutions for the beneficiaries. 

 

Capacity Building: 

  • Organize training and capacity-building programs for staff and beneficiaries to enhance their skills and competencies.

  • Facilitate training on women empowerment and empower women to achieve their goals.

  • Promote women's rights, women empowerment, and gender equality by training women leaders from the communites.

 

Coordination with Dao Ethical Gifts (DEG): 

  • As per the MoU between BDF and DEG, support in the sustainability of women involved in the project.

  • Support beneficiaries of WEP who are in need and help them become the “producers” for DEG in order to help them generate additional  income to support the education and well-being of their children. 

  • Provide coaching, training and upskilling training (such as advanced sewing skills, cooking, Thai language class, financial literacy, work readiness skills, etc.) to beneficiaries as appropriate to WEP. 

  • Work with DEG manager to support and coordinate between beneficiaries of the WEP (producers) and DEG regarding the production and distribution of work assigned to women producers. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Nationality: Thai nationality 

 

Language requirements:  Excellent command of written and spoken English & Thai. 

 

Education/ Experience:  

  • Bachelor’s degree related to Social Development

  • Experience working with government, and non-governmental organizations 

  • Experience working with vulnerable groups, especially marginalized and women in need

  • Experience working on Project Management

 

 Other skills and competencies:

  • Commitment to work in a fast-paced working environment

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Demonstrated experience in program development, monitoring, and evaluation

  • Strong leadership skills and experience in managing a team

  • Knowledge on the latest trends, best practices, and challenges in the field of women empowerment and gender equality

  • Ability to work in diverse cultural contexts


 

Working hours: Full time (Monday to Friday with occasional weekend and evenings)

Salary & Compensation: To be defined based on experience and qualifications
