The Wildlife Justice Commission is an innovative, young, mission-driven organisation leveraging the rule of law and the power of investigation to stop the extinction of our wildlife. Our mission is to disrupt and dismantle the transnational criminal networks trading in wildlife, timber, and fish by collecting evidence and turning it into accountability.
The Wildlife Justice Commission has been very successful in its recent start-up years and is growing quickly. To be able to support this worldwide growth, we have a position available for an enthusiastic and well-rounded:
Senior Investigator
Position Overview
We are seeking a Senior Investigator in Thailand. Working closely with the Director of Investigations, this position is responsible for conducting complex wildlife investigations in support of local and international law enforcement agencies.
The main position objectives are as follows:
- Undertake protracted covert investigations in line with local legislative frameworks and the Wildlife Justice Commission’s investigation guidelines and risk procedures.
- Manage and provide training and ongoing mentoring to a team of local investigators.
- Assist local and international law enforcement agencies with seizures, arrests, and convictions in respect to wildlife crimes.
- Enhance the intelligence picture of wildlife crimes in Southeast Asia.
- Develop relationships with local law enforcement and other stakeholders.
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Work collaboratively as part of an intelligence-led investigations team.
- Coordinate on-the-ground and remote wildlife investigations.
- Develop sound operational plans accounting for the local operating environment and potential risks.
- Prepare risk assessments identifying and developing strategies to mitigate risk.
- Prepare comprehensive investigation case files.
Requirements
Knowledge and Skills
- An understanding of the illegal wildlife landscape.
- Strong leadership skills.
- Strong time management skills.
- Ability to identify and collect intelligence and evidence for dissemination to law enforcement agencies.
- Excellent communication, writing, and interpersonal skills.
- Open-minded and adaptable to new approaches and changing priorities.
- Ability to work well both independently and collaboratively on multiple projects simultaneously, with a wide variety of stakeholders and within a dispersed team that includes both Wildlife Justice Commission and non-Wildlife Justice Commission staff.
- Cultural competency; interested in, and understanding of, different cultures.
- Excellent spoken and written English and Spanish.
- Computer proficiency (Microsoft Office, case management systems, analyst notebook, iBase).
Education and Experience
- At least 10 years’ experience in a law enforcement capacity or similar role or a related field, including meaningful experience coordinating complex investigations.
- Expertise in covert investigations including surveillance or undercover operations.
