Who we are

Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) is an independent, non-profit German foundation funded by the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany, and headquartered in Bonn and Berlin. It was founded in 1925 and is named after Germany's first democratically elected President. FES is committed to the advancement of socio-political and economic development in the spirit of social democracy, through civic education, research, and international cooperation via more than 100 offices abroad.

In Thailand, our activities address gender and climate justice, an inclusive welfare system, the economy of tomorrow, the future of the world of work, trade union solidarity, as well as peace and international relations. With our work, we network thought leaders and institutions, promote strategic dialogue and cooperation among Germany and Thailand, analyze future trends and develop policy recommendations. We would like to inspire and strengthen the good relations between Thailand and Germany, Asia and Europe. Our Thailand Office in Bangkok, part of the Asia-Pacific Department of the International Division in Berlin, has been established over 50 years ago and has eight highly committed employees. The position of the Resident Director is currently open.

 

Job Purpose and Responsibilities:

  • Acting as a representative of FES and maintaining relationships with governmental and non-governmental organizations, think tanks, academic institutes, civil society partners, trade unions and other stakeholders.
  • Managing the FES office located in Bangkok, Thailand, with a focus on all financial, personnel, and administrative responsibilities.
  • Managing, steering and developing the Thailand project conceptually and technically, while integrating FES strategies, specific project-oriented work approaches in close collaboration with the FES headquarters.
  • Conceptualizing, planning, and implementing dialogue activities (seminars, panels, workshops, innovative events) and publications (studies, reports, training manuals, online and offline).
  • Engaging in regional and global initiatives and collaborating with other FES offices across Asian and Pacific countries.
  • Conducting analysis and reporting on all fields of work and developments in Thailand.
  • Steering and producing communication activities on all fields of work in Thailand.

 

What we expect:

  • University degree (M.A., Ph.D.) in an academic field related to development cooperation or international relations
  • Demonstrated, strong analytical, speaking and writing skills
  • Profound knowledge in the fields of social, economic, political and international sciences
  • Minimum 10 years professional experience of work in international settings
  • Excellent understanding of the German foreign policy and development cooperation landscape, the role and task of political foundations within it, of the German and international party and trade union systems
  • Substantial background and proven results in political consulting
  • Extensive expertise in transformative project management based on German and EU tools and programmes
  • Exceptional communication, collaboration, and teamwork skills, coupled with leadership capabilities, negotiation prowess, and the ability to perform well under pressure
  • A strong commitment to FES values
  • Highest proficiency in German and English (C1/C2 level) and proficiency in at least one other European language, with a willingness to learn Thai if necessary
