Introduction

SMRU is a field station of the faculty of Tropical Medicine, Mahidol University, Bangkok, Thailand, and is part of the Mahidol-Oxford Research Unit (MORU) supported by the Wellcome (UK).

The main objective of SMRU is to provide quality health care to the marginalized populations living on both sides of the Thai-Myanmar border in Tak Province. This is achieved by the dual activities of research and humanitarian services, with an emphasis on maternal-child health and infectious diseases.

This combination of health care and research makes SMRU unique. The research agenda is driven by the questions we face in our clinical practice and whether clinical or laboratory based, our studies are designed to be of relevance to the population we serve.

 

Responsible for:

  • Supporting the development and use of data systems, ensuring effective data management, secure procedures, and data analysis.
  • Data Collection
    • Design, development, testing, and implementation of data collection database.
    • Trains and educate data entry staffs on data collection tools and equipment.
    • Supervise and mange/assign tasks to data entry staffs at clinics and SMRU office
  • Data Training
    • Identify data training needs within the organization and conduct training sessions to improve data-related skills among staff.
  • Data Documentation
    • Maintain comprehensive documentation of data management, validation, and procedures to facilitate data quality and knowledge sharing
  • Collaboration
    • Collaborate closely with clinics to understand their data requirements and provide data support accordingly.
  • Data Cleaning and Transformation
    • Ensure data accuracy and integrity through regular validation protocols, quality checks, and audits.
    • Clean and transform raw data into usable formats.
  • Data Reporting and Analysis
    • Conduct data analysis to extract valuable insights from various datasets, supporting the needs of clinics and research programs.
    • Provide and extract data for different project/study, and generate reports as required.
    • Prepares and generates routine reports to facilitate clinical, research and administrative decision making as required.
    • Provide monthly, quarterly, and annual medical, clinical and internal routine reports and/or narratives, submitted to doctors for reviewing and distribute them to other partners.
  • Data Visualization
    • Develop data visualization reports and dashboards to present insights in an understandable and actionable format.
  • Perform other task that may delegate by supervisor/manager

 

Essential Criteria

  • Degree/diploma in a relevant field such as data science, statistics, computer science, or a related discipline. Equivalent professional experience will also be considered.
  • Proven experience in data analysis, data cleaning, and data visualization.
  • Experience in Database development using Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft Access, KoboToolbox.
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools and software (e.g., Microsoft Excel, Power Query, Power BI).
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to data accuracy and quality.
  • Fluent in English, proficiency in Thai, Karen, Burmese

 

Desirable Criteria

  • Ability to work independently as well in a team in a multi-cultural work environment.
  • Effective liaison experience with external organizations.
  • Experience in the development and delivery of data projects
  • Experience working in a non-profit organization environment
  • Motivation and interesting in self-learning
  • Experience in working with other database software is a Plus.
