Winrock International (Winrock) is a non-profit organization that works worldwide to increase economic opportunity, sustain natural resources, and protect the environment. The USDA Thailand Regional Agriculture Innovation Network (RAIN) is a five-year project, implemented by Winrock International, starting from 2022 to 2027. It aims to promote production, trade and improve climate resilience of growers in six agricultural value chain crops in Thailand, namely rice, cassava, coconut, durian, mangosteen, and longan. The project will be identifying climate-smart agricultural practices and technologies and will select and promote up to 30 technologies and services in the value chains focusing on 11 provinces in Thailand (Chaiyaphum, Chanthaburi, Chumphon, Chaing Rai, Chaing Mai, Khon Kaen, Nakhon Ratchasima, Nakhon Sri Thammarat, Lampoon, Ratchaburi and Samut Songkram). The project supports finance, extension, data analysis, and equal access to promote the adoption.

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

RAIN is seeking a professional for Agriculture Value Chain Lead. The goal of this role is to lead coordination for technology adoption through business models. The responsibilities will be to develop and facilitate business models of selected technologies and services from partnership coordination, piloting, and scaling up. The ideal candidates must be knowledgeable on agricultural value chains, experienced in government coordination, international project implementation, and reporting systems as well as be resourceful in his/her area of expertise. Experience in business development with an agricultural background would be an advantage.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Providing expertise to support all activities in promoting agricultural technologies. The activities are such as identification, validation, piloting, scaling, and knowledge sharing by studying the value chains (actors and activities) of assigned crops, priority gaps or pain points, existing technologies and services, potential solutions, identifying strategic partners/institutions to ensure that USDA fund helps promote climate resilience, productivity as well as economic that relevance to the targeted beneficiaries and areas.
  2. Lead business development of assigned technologies. This includes coordinating market surveys, business analysis with internal or external resources if needed, negotiation, and coordination with tech firms/ developers, service providers, and crop producers in target areas.
  3. Day-to-day coordination on responsible technologies. This includes developing plans, organizing activities, bookkeeping, monitoring, identifying resource needs, collaborating with the team in achieving targets, developing good relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and supporting the project with insightful information.
  4. Data management for progress tracking system, creatively package information for professional sharing and supporting project decision process. Ensuring accurate data and monitoring systems are produced and maintained for each innovation and its activities.
  5. Be able to supervise consultants on studies, surveys, and assessments. This includes understating the nature of the service, drafting the Term of Reference, quality control, and providing technical support when necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of agricultural value chain, marketing, agricultural engineering, science and technology with undergraduate degree or graduate degree in Business Administration, Agriculture, Engineer, Science and Technology, Marketing or any other relevant.
  • At least 7 year-experience in project management, project coordination of agricultural value chain. A proven leadership or decision-making background would be an advantage.
  • Good skill in identifying business opportunities, knowing what works and does not work for the target sector in the areas
  • Have knowledge of agricultural production in any of the following crops: rice, cassava, durian, longan, mangosteen, and coconut would be an advantage
  • Having integrity in business operations and implications and being the model on that
  • Outstanding analytical, problem solving and communication skills.
  • Fluency in English in professional expression, reading, writing, and speaking.
  • Working level of computer and internet literacy (MS Excel, MS Word, Power Point, Canva, social media etc)
  • Available for traveling up-country and sometimes in the region.
