The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is an impartial, neutral and independent organization whose exclusively humanitarian mission is to protect the lives and dignity of victims of war and internal violence and to provide them with assistance. The ICRC regional delegation in Bangkok provides assistance to victims of violence and works with authorities in order to improve the conditions in detention facilities. It also endeavours to promote and to strengthen humanitarian law and universal humanitarian principles.
We are looking for a
Communications Analyst
(Political, Social, Economic context), based in Bangkok
This position will be in charge of daily monitoring, gathering and processing relevant information from external sources including the media, including social media, and other relevant sources, on issues which relate to the work of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). The selected candidate will provide weekly analysis and news summary on issues that relate to humanitarian affairs, regional geopolitical affairs, development issues that have an impact on the ICRC and its activities in Thailand Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam.
Your main responsibilities
• Monitor online communications with a focus on humanitarian issues and political/social/economic developments, which are relevant to ICRC's work in Thailand, Cambodia, Laos and Viet Nam
• Provide weekly analysis on different topics to improve the management's decision-making and understanding of each country context
• Prepare analytical papers on selected issues related to ICRC’s work with its potential impact
• Assist the communication team in the preparation of reports, presentations and other materials using the results of your researches and analyses
• Develop contacts with relevant think tanks related to the work of the ICRC in the region
• Translate and produce weekly email overview in English for internal use.
• Support the writing of opinion-pieces, academic articles, position papers relevant to the ICRC mandate
• Attend briefings at the Foreign Correspondent’s Club of Thailand and Cambodia for information updates (for liaising for information purposes)
• Provide guidance on regional monitoring tools relevant for the Asia Pacific context
Your education and experience
• University's degree (or equivalent) in International Relations, Political Science, Public Policy Studies,
Journalism or similar field.
• Strong track record in secondary research (selecting information's sources, data gathering, and filtering, etc.) and analysis (production of analytical and narrative reports).
• Strong skills in online or digital communication
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Thai. Knowledge of Khmer or Lao or Vietnamese is a plus.
• Ability to take initiative, self-motivate and work independently.
