Project Manager

 

ActionAid is an international social justice organization operating in over 45 countries in Asia, Africa, Europe, and the Americas, striving for a world free from poverty and injustice. With the Human Rights-Based Approach (HRBA), it aims to strengthen the capacity of people living in poverty and exclusion to assert their rights, believing in the power of people to bring about change for themselves, their communities, and entire societies. ActionAid has been working in Thailand since 2001 and was registered as ActionAid International (Thailand) Foundation (AAIT) in 2011 as a local non-profit organization. AAIT works throughout Thailand with communities, civil society organizations, small school networks, government entities, academia, and media to support the cause of changing the lives of the poorest and the most disadvantaged women and children.

 

Location: Bangkok, Thailand (with travels to project areas)

 

Responsibilities:

The primary role of this position is to manage the EU-funded ENGAGE-South Project. The project manager will work closely with partners and team members to ensure that project quality meets the project's objectives and goals. This includes overseeing project implementation and expansion, as well as supporting Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) processes to ensure full compliance with donor requirements and ActionAid International Thailand Foundation (AAIT) standards.

 

Fundraising

  • Maintain and update donor communications on project status and/or changes.
  • Represent and promote the project nationally.
  • Link the project with new and related initiatives to promote new funding sources and AAIT’s fundraising activities. 

 

Strategy Development and Implementation

  • Design and implement a strategy for a project on natural resource management and climate change response at the country level.
  • Ensure the effective implementation of the project-related work in accordance with AAIT’s Country Strategic Plan.
  • Ensure project staff and partners strategically implement project activities as planned.

 

Project Implementation

  • Lead the development of a strategic project implementation plan in collaboration with partner organizations and networks and ensure effective coordination
  • Extend full support to partner organizations in implementing the project in accordance with contractual requirements.
  • Manage and resolve any obstacle to deliverables by linking the project and partners to appropriate support, even outside the project specification, e.g., AAIT’s mission objectives, impact assessment, etc.
  • Ensure all project activities are sensitive and responsive to changes in the political, social, and economic environment in project areas.


People Management

  • Be involved in the recruitment of project staff.
  • Provide induction, training, coaching, mentoring, and advice to project staff and partner organizations to ensure that they understand and carry out their responsibilities effectively.
  • Conduct comprehensive performance appraisal of project staff, including coordination of such with project partners and provide/obtain feedback if required by donor.
  • Provide appropriate training for project staff, partner staff, target groups, and volunteers when necessary.

 

Partnership Management

  • Support in building partnerships and maintaining good relationships with local government officials, local authorities, and other influential stakeholders to support project activities.
  • Maintain regular contact with partners to seek feedback for continuous improvement of the organization.
  • Ensure that the relationship with partners is in accordance with contract requirements and that the principles of partnership and accountability are maintained throughout project implementation.
  • As a service to partners, ensure that there is no duplication of activities through coordination with other local agencies.
  • Coordinate with government offices and other related agencies.
  • System, policy and procedure management.
  • Familiarize self with all donor contract conditions and ensure partners and their project management team understand donor rules and requirements.
  • Ensure that the project meets all AAIT’s internal and external statutory requirements.
  • Support in policy advocacy and campaigning.
  • Comply with approved organizational policies and procedures.

 

Annual Planning and Budgeting

  • Monitor progress against the activity workplan to ensure that the project attains its objectives as cost-efficiently as possible.
  • Provide inputs to annual budgeting and planning development.

 

Monitoring and Evaluation and Report

  • Ensure maintenance of the Management Information System related to documentation of the project, including timely delivery of donor financial and narrative reports.
  • Prepare and submit reports to AAIT, ActionAid International (AAI), the donor, and relevant government agencies in related fields.
  • Maintain all project documentation and archives.

 

Financial Management

  • Manage project budget and approve requisitions, advances, and expenses.
  • Control of expenditure and disbursement of resources of the budget in charge to ensure compliance with the financial policy of partners, AAIT, and the donor.

 

Audit and Issue Resolutions, Crisis and Risk Management

  • Support the project audit and organizational audit.
  • Report any risk in own area of work that does not comply with organization policy, procedures, and donor requirements.
  • Maintain an awareness of any possible crisis or risk to the organization’s funding and donor relations and develop plans that will provide for such contingencies.

 

Qualifications & Experience:

Education & Certifications

  • Master’s degree in environment, social science, economics, social development studies, and other related fields.
  • Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) experiences are an advantage.

Essential Experience

  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in a multi-cultural working environment, preferably an INGO.
  • Experience in natural resource management, climate change response, and resilience planning.
  • Experience in participatory methodologies.
  • Experience in project management and Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL).

Essential Knowledge

  • Extensive knowledge of the system, policies, and issues of climate change, climate actions, natural resources management and ecosystem, resilience, and gender justice.
  • Knowledge of policies and issues related to the Human Rights-based Approach, environmental rights, environment protection, and Sustainable Development Goals.

Essential Skills

  • Extensive administrative and organizational skills.
  • Excellent presentation and communication.
  • Excellent people management skills.
  • Excellent English and Thai communication: speaking, reading, and writing skills
  • Good research and analytical skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Documenting, report writing, and proposal writing skills are preferable.

Abilities

  • Work on own initiative with minimum supervision and stay on task.
  • Able to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Able to travel in project fields.

Other qualities

  • A committed, mature, and decisive self-starter with a high level of integrity, sociability and attention to detail.
  • Thai nationality.
