Labour Rights Foundation, Thailand is seeking a visionary and committed leader to serve as a Director and leads the organisation’s mission to empower workers and ensure labour rights promoting and protections in Thailand and sending countries with strategic and operational leadership.

Location: Samut Sakhon, Thailand (Full-time)

Overview of this role: 

The Director provides overall leadership, strategic direction, people and resources management to the Labour Rights Foundation, ensuring the fulfillment of the Foundation’s missions and objectives, including workers organizing and empowerment, effective governance, financial transparency, accountability and sustainability, and a healthy, inclusive organisational culture aligned with the Foundation’s policies and values.

 

Summary of Key Responsibilities: 

  • Provide strategic leadership and direction for workers organizing and labour rights protections.
  • Lead and manage staff members, consultants, volunteers, and interns (10-15 full-time staff members)
  • Design and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy including communicating and generating relationships with donors.
  • Represent the Foundation with government, civil society, media, donors, and the global labour movement
  • Strengthen organisational systems, risk management, effective governance, in compliance with Thai laws and other requirements.  
  • Build a healthy workplace culture rooted in safeguarding, wellbeing, equality, and integrate gender mainstreaming into organization policies and program operations. 
  • Lead financial stewardship and long-term sustainability to demonstrate financial transparency and accountability. 
  • Support good governance through regular communications and reporting to the Board of the Foundation

 

Roles and responsibilities included but are not limited to:

  1.  To develop a detailed strategic 3-5 year plan, operational plan, and annual budget plan in consultation with the team and to be approved by the Foundation Board. 
  2. To design a monitoring and evaluation system to meet the requirements of the donor in consultation with the team and to be approved by the Foundation Board.
  3. To oversee, monitor, and evaluate programs implementation quarterly to ensure project progress and high-quality implementation in order to achieve the planned results in line with the Foundation’s missions, goals and values. 
  4. To ensure transparent and correct project related financial transactions and recordings and ensure the expenditure stays within the budget.
  5. To ensure communications, collaborations, and reporting of financial and project activities, challenges and progress, to the Foundation Board at least twice a year.
  6. To represent the organization and lias with government agencies and other stakeholders at high-level advocacy opportunities.
  7. To design and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy including communicating and generating relationships with donors. To represent the organization in designing and reviewing proposals in consultation with the Foundation Board.
  8. To lead the production of high-quality annual reports, donor reports, budget planning, to be submitted to the Foundation Board.
  9. To design roles and responsibilities of staff and consultants in consultation with the team, with the approval from the Foundation Board and support the organization recruitment process.
  10. To communicate, seek inputs, and consultations on migrant workers situations, challenges, and progress from the Committee of Migrant Workers’ Solidarity Community (MWSC) and broader migrant workers community at least once a year.
  11. To collaborate with MWSC Board to establish a network of migrant leaders who will advocate and campaign for positive changes for migrant workers rights.

 

Qualifications:

  1. A minimum of 7 years work experience in leadership roles and management, preferable with experiences working with workers and migrant communities.
  2. Experience in advocacy/campaign work and proven track record in developing and influencing policies and practices in a relevant field (e.g. human rights, workers rights, corporate accountability, community organizing, and international development) 
  3. Academic degree in a related field, such as law, economics, development studies, and  human rights. 
  4. Proven in-depth understanding of and knowledge on migration and labour rights in both sending and destination countries. 
  5. Excellent analytical and conceptual skills with understanding of and commitment to diversity and gender equality with ability to integrate gender into programs and advocacy work 
  6. Advanced language proficiency in English and Thai is a requirement with proven excellent written and verbal communication skills. Intermediate Burmese language skills is an advantage.
  7. Ability to think strategically and execute the operation in Thai legal, political social, and economic contexts
  8. Ability to work ethically with integrity, creatively, prioritize, plan, mentor staff and organize work in a multi-cultural and diverse organisation setting.  
  9. Strong experience in organizational management, team leadership, and people management with excellent cross-cultural and inter-personal skills, emotional and culturally intelligent leader and manager of the team
  10. Computer proficiency including Microsoft Words, Excels, Power Point, and email corresponding and online meetings.
