WWF International expanded its global Youth Engagement Programme (YEP) for 18–30-year-olds in 2024. The Programme, which provides internships, youth-led grassroots leadership programme and virtual mentorship opportunities, aims to inspire a new generation of environmental advocates and leaders, especially young women, in their countries and communities to actively contribute to youth and community-led conservation and help drive positive change.

Our work in Thailand includes wildlife, fisheries, forest, and landscape conservation, as well as efforts to reduce marine plastics.

I. MISSION OF THE DEPARTMENT

WWF-Thailand is currently implementing the “Forest Forward Project” (formally titled Protecting and Connecting Thailand’s Forest Landscapes), with funding support from the SIG Group. The project is under Forest Practice of WWF Thailand. It is aimed to enhance the management and conservation of biodiversity across key forest landscapes in Thailand, including the Dawna-Tenasserim Landscape (DTL), Dong-Phayayen World Heritage Site (DPKY), and the Lower Songkhram River Basin (LSRB). One key component of the project is to support forest landscape restoration through restoring natural habitats, promoting agroforestry, and strengthening community forest management. On-going activities have been implementing especially in two important landscapes including the Mae Ping Corridor in Tak Province and the Lower Songkhram River Basin in Nakhon Phanom Province.

II. MAJOR FUNCTIONS

This internship position will be based in Tak Province to support field operations in the Mae Ping Corridor. The intern will assist project officers and technical advisors to coordinate field activities, supporting forest assessment, smallholder and farm assessment, and collecting lessons learned from field operations. The intern will occasionally be involved in WWF Thailand’s activities to ensure effective internal coordination and cohesion.

III. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Support coordination with local communities, government officers, and other stakeholders in the project area to ensure field activities are implemented according to the plan.
• Assist in organization and facilitation of meetings, workshops, and field visits to build capacity and enhance collaboration among the stakeholders in the project area.
• Coordinate and conduct smallholder and farm assessments for the agroforestry plots under project support to assess the progress and identify challenges and further support needed.
• Coordinate community forest planning and management activities in the target community forests to ensure project delivery and community are effectively engaged.
• Collect the lessons learned from the field operations to support project reporting and communication.  
• Support other tasks assigned by the line manager and supervisor.
  

IV. PROFILE

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in conservation biology, forest management or ecology, environmental science, social science, or a related field.
• Understanding of forest ecology, biodiversity conservation, ecosystem connectivity, and community-based natural resource management.
• Experience working in forest conservation projects involving multi-stakeholders or interested in developing professional skills on forest conservation with international organization.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Willingness to travel to remote locations and conduct fieldwork as required.
• Availability to commit full-time for a defined internship period (1 year).

Required Skills and Competencies

• Understanding on facilitation principles and techniques.
• Understanding on participatory data collection or action research.
• Proactive, adaptability, and strong communication skills.
• Interpersonal skills, teamwork and collaboration.
• Proficiency in MS Office and online communication applications.
• Fluency in Thai and competence in English.

V. WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

Internal: WWF-Thailand Conservation, Finance, and Communications staff, as well as WWF International under the Youth Engagement Program (YEP).
External: Thailand Department of National Parks, Wildlife, and Plant Conservation, Royal Forest Department, local community, provincial government agencies, as well as academic, CSO, and INGO partners under the close supervision of a WWF Staff.
