PURPOSE OF POSITION

The Mental Health & Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) Specialist provides technical leadership and implementation support for the integration of mental health and psychosocial wellbeing across WVFT’s priority program portfolios under the Program Acquisition and Management (PAM) Directorate.

The role supports IPF 1 (Education & Youth), IPF 2 (Child Protection), and IPF 3 (Environment & Sustainability / Climate & DRR) by embedding mental health promotion, prevention, resilience-building, referral pathways, and treatment linkages into program design and delivery.

In addition to technical backstopping, the position leads the initial design and piloting of a WVFT mental health program approach, working with program teams, partners, and external stakeholders to document learning and position WVFT for future scale-up of mental health programming.

The MHPSS Specialist also plays a key role in external engagement, advocacy, and technical partnering, strengthening WVFT’s credibility with health actors, government counterparts, NGOs, and donors in the mental health space.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Mental Health Integration Across IPFs 25%

Provide technical guidance to integrate mental health and psychosocial wellbeing into Education & Youth, Child Protection, and Environment/DRR programming. Focus on prevention, resilience, trauma-informed approaches, and safe referral pathways.

Program Design, Piloting and Positioning 20%

Lead technical design of an initial WVFT mental health program approach, including theory of change, intervention options, and implementation considerations. Support piloting, documentation, and learning to inform future scale-up.

Implementation Support and Technical Backstopping 15%

Provide technical backstopping to field and implementation teams via PQI mechanisms, including tools, guidance, and problem-solving support related to MHPSS integration, referral, and ethical practice.

External Engagement, Advocacy, and Partnering 15% 

Engage with external partners including Ministry of Public Health, service providers, NGOs, academic institutions, and networks to strengthen coordination, referral, and system alignment. Support advocacy and policy dialogue related to child and community mental health.

Proposal Development, Resource Mobilization & Technical Branding 15%

Provide technical inputs for proposals, donor engagement, and reporting related to mental health integration. Work with Branding & Communications to develop technical narratives, evidence, and positioning for mental health audiences.

Learning, Evidence, and Compliance 10%

Support documentation of outcomes, learning, and evidence related to mental health interventions. Ensure compliance with ethical standards, safeguarding, and data protection (PDPA).

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Psychology, Mental Health, Social Work, Public Health, or related field.
  • Training in MHPSS, trauma-informed care, or psychosocial interventions preferred.
  • Minimum 6–8 years of experience in mental health or psychosocial support programming.
  • Demonstrated experience integrating MHPSS into development, protection, education, or humanitarian programs.
  • Experience working with referral systems and coordination with health or social service providers.
  • Exposure to advocacy, systems strengthening, or partnership-based programming is an advantage.
  • Strong understanding of:
  • Mental health promotion and prevention.
  • Psychosocial resilience and wellbeing.
  • Trauma-informed approaches.Referral and treatment support models.
  • Ability to design and adapt MHPSS approaches to different sectoral contexts.
  • Strong facilitation, coordination, and communication skills.
  • Ability to translate technical mental health concepts into accessible guidance for non-specialists.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 and collaboration tools.
  • Fluency in Thai and working proficiency in English (written and spoken).
  • Based in Bangkok.
  • Occasional domestic travel (≤15%) for donor meetings or program visits
  • Hybrid work arrangement.
