The Need
For 25 years, IJM has pioneered the work to protect vulnerable people from violence. 9 out of 9 times in the last decade, IJM’s Justice System Strengthening Projects have reduced slavery and violence between 50 and 85% for very large populations of people in poverty. As we grow to expand our impact to protect 500 million people from violence by 2030, we are seeking a Crime Research and Analysis Associate to provides daily analytical and research support for IJM Thailand’s Investigations and Law Enforcement Development (ILED) team. This includes collecting and organizing information, identifying connections relevant to casework, highlighting information gaps, and preparing profiles that support investigations and victim assistance efforts.
The role also includes supporting capacity‑building with IJM partners by providing training in research methods and analytical approaches. Under the direction of the ILED Manager, the Associate will also contribute to partner engagement and maintain awareness of broader trends related to the crime type to inform team decision‑making.
This position is based in Bangkok, Thailand and reports to the Investigations and Law Enforcement Development (ILED) Manager.
Responsibilities:
Strategy and Knowledge Development and Implementation
· Delivers training and mentoring of criminal analysis and OSINT tools, techniques and datasets to host-nation law enforcement partners;
· Delivery of OSINT upskilling to IJM Thailand ILED teams (and other teams as deemed appropriate).
Networking and Partnership
· Develops and maintains strong working relationships with the IJM Cambodia and Myanmar field offices;
· Develops and maintains strong working relationships with the IJM Global Fusion Center;
· Develops and maintains partnerships with host-nation law enforcement partners;
· Maintain and develop strong relationships with other host-government and NGO partners.
Communication
· Prepares and disseminates professional written reports of operational-level criminal analysis findings to internal and external parties;
· Provides high-quality briefings of operational-level criminal analysis findings to internal and external parties.
Training and Development
· Participates in, and successfully completes, the IJM Criminal Analyst Training Program (CATP) as outlined by the Global Fusion Center;
· Delivers criminal analysis and OSINT training to host-nation law enforcement partners;
· Delivers training and upskilling to IJM Thailand ILED teams.
Casework
· Collects, processes, analyzes, and disseminates actionable information that facilitates specific law enforcement and fieldwork outcomes;
· Conducts operational-level criminal analysis and leverages OSINT tools, techniques and datasets in support of IJM and partnered casework.
Documentation, Reporting & Data Management
· Leverages criminal analysis and OSINT tools to collect, process, and analyze actionable information that facilitates specific law enforcement and fieldwork outcomes;
· Professionally and efficiently documents operational-level criminal analysis work via IJM’s Justice Data Solution (JDS) and IJM’s criminal intelligence platform (Kaseware).
Fieldwork Projects
· Provide support to investigations as required;
· Serve as a subject matter expert in liaison meetings with host-nation law enforcement partners;
· Provide critical information and support as a subject matter expert to the ILED team.
Qualifications:
· Minimum 2 years of experience in criminal investigations, legal research, data analysis, or closely related field within a governmental agency, non-governmental organization (NGO), private sector corporation, or academic institution;
· Minimum of a four-year university degree in criminal justice, legal studies, computer science, information technology, or closely related field;
· Exceptions to these requirements may be considered upon concurrence from the Director, Global Fusion Center and the ILED Manager of IJM Thailand;
· Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English;
· Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking Thai is desirable;
· Proficiency in conducting open-source investigative research;
· Proficiency in using geospatial mapping applications such as Google Earth or ArcGIS (or similar applications);
· Proficiency in analyzing complex datasets;
· Proficiency in preparing written reports of key findings for a professional audience;
· Proficiency in providing briefings/presentations of key findings for a professional audience;
· High proficiency in computer and technical skills.
