Established in 1951, IOM is the leading inter-governmental organization in the field of migration and works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.

1. ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT AND SCOPE:

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Thailand implements a range of national and regional projects aimed at addressing migration challenges and delivering increased protection and assistance to vulnerable migrants in partnership with government, civil society, and private sector counterparts.

The mission’s Protection and Border Governance Unit (PBGU) collaborates with national and international partners to address migration challenges, strengthen border management systems, and safeguard the rights and well-being of migrants. Through research, policy interventions, capacity-building and outreach, these projects aim to develop sustainable solutions to reduce systemic vulnerabilities and to provide increased support to vulnerable migrants, including victims of trafficking, internally displaced persons, refugees, asylum seekers, unaccompanied minors, and exploited and abused migrants.

Under the project Enhancing the Capacity of Thailand to Combat Trafficking in Persons and Smuggling of Migrants through Enhanced Border Management, funded by the Government of Canada, PBGU supports government, civil society, and privatesector partners through training and knowledgesharing activities. These include initiatives focusing on migration management, protection of vulnerable migrants, victim identification, and interagency coordination. The intern will support project objectives, primarily reducing threats from human trafficking and migrant smuggling syndicates (including those linked to cyber scam compounds) to affected populations, including men and women, boys, girls or persons with diverse orientation, gender identity, gender expression, and sex characteristics (SOGIESC) in Southeast Asia.

Under the overall supervisor of the Programme Manager, and the direct supervision of the Senior Programme Associate in Bangkok, the Capacity Development Support Intern will support the implementation of the protection and boarder governance project activities in Thailand.

  • Assist in maintaining orderly filing and recordkeeping systems, and update the Unit’s training resources repository (SOPs, guidance notes, tools, presentations used in national and regional capacitybuilding initiatives).
  • Support community outreach activities including the organization of multistakeholder coordination meetings, such as provincial protection committees or thematic working groups, by preparing briefing notes, attendance records, and followup action trackers.
  • Travel as necessary with the PBGU team within Thailand to support the capacity building and community outreach activities.
