Established in 1951, IOM is the leading inter-governmental organization in the field of migration and works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. 1. ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT AND SCOPE:
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Thailand implements a range of national and regional projects aimed at addressing migration challenges and delivering increased protection and assistance to vulnerable migrants in partnership with government, civil society, and private sector counterparts.
Through its Protection and Border Governance Unit (PBGU), IOM Thailand supports case management, assisted voluntary return and reintegration (AVRR), and protection‑oriented interventions for vulnerable migrants, including victims of trafficking and Thai nationals returning from abroad. IOM’s case management approach is grounded in safe, dignified, survivor‑centred and rights‑based principles, ensuring that individual needs, risks, and vulnerabilities are assessed and addressed throughout the return and reintegration process.
Within this context, the Intern (Case Management and Reintegration Support) will support PBGU's case management team with the reintegration of Thai returnees, assistance to vulnerable migrants and victims of trafficking, and administrative and logistical support to related programme activities.
Under the overall supervision of the Programme Manager (PBGU), and the direct supervision of the Senior Project Assistant in Bangkok, the Intern will support case management and reintegration activities in Thailand.
2. RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:
The successful candidate will have the following duties and responsibilities:
- Support PBGU's case management team in the provision of reintegration assistance to Thai returnees, including organizing case files and supporting follow-up activities under supervision.
- Assist in supporting the return process of vulnerable migrants and victims of trafficking, including administrative preparation and coordination with relevant stakeholders, as appropriate.
- Support the documentation and organization of case management-related information, ensuring confidentiality and data protection principles are respected.
- Assist with administrative and logistical arrangements for meetings, trainings, or events related to case management, reintegration, or protection activities.
- Support the preparation of basic summaries, tracking tools, or internal updates related to case management activities.
- Perform other duties as may be assigned.
TRAINING COMPONENTS AND LEARNING ELEMENTS
The Intern will:
- Gain practical experience in case management and reintegration programming within a UN migration and protection context.
- Develop an understanding of assisted voluntary return and reintegration (AVRR) processes and protection‑oriented interventions.
- Gain exposure to survivor‑centred and rights‑based approaches in migration programming.
- Develop administrative, organizational, and coordination skills in support of programme implementation.
- Receive access to IOM’s internal learning platforms and online training courses.
- Have opportunities to interact with IOM staff across units and functions.
3. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
EDUCATION
- Currently enrolled in, or recently graduated (within the last 12 months) from, a Bachelor’s or Master’s programme in communications, social work, international relations, law, development studies, migration studies, or a related field.
EXPERIENCE
- Previous academic, volunteer, or internship experience related to social services, protection, migration, or case management;
- Interest in counter‑trafficking, migrant protection, or reintegration programming;
- Working for non-governmental organizations, international governmental organizations or government institutions;
- Working on the protection and assistance of vulnerable migrant populations;
- Working in a multi-cultural environment and demonstrated capacity to respect diversity.
SKILLS
- Strong written and verbal communication skills;
- Ability to organize information clearly and accurately;
- Sensitivity to cultural diversity and protection considerations;
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality;
- Proven understanding of migration dynamics in Thailand and of vulnerabilities experienced by migrant populations;
- Demonstrated knowledge of information technology and proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, and SharePoint.
4. LANGUAGES
- For Internship, External applicants for all positions are required to be proficient in English and Thai.
