Working Hours:

Full-time (40 hours per week), Monday to Friday

2. About Mekong Institute (MI)

Mekong Institute (MI) is an intergovernmental organization owned and governed by the six Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) member countries: Cambodia, China, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Thailand and Viet Nam. As a regional platform for cooperation, MI strengthens institutional and human capacities, convenes policy dialogue, facilitates knowledge exchange, and mobilizes strategic partnerships to advance regional integration and sustainable development.

 

Guided by its Strategic Plan 2026-2030, MI adopts an integrated, programmatic and partnership-driven approach to addressing shared cross-border challenges and generating regional public value. Through a nexus approach, MI connects economic transformation, resilient sectoral systems, cross-sector collaboration, and institutional strengthening to translate regional priorities into practical actions, evidence-informed policies, and scalable solutions that contribute to a more resilient, inclusive and prosperous Greater Mekong Subregion.

 

3. About MKCF

The MekongRepublic of Korea Cooperation Fund (MKCF) is a development cooperation mechanism established to support cooperation between the Republic of Korea and the Mekong countries. The MKCF supports projects that contribute to regional cooperation, sustainable development, institutional capacity building, innovation, and inclusive economic growth across Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Thailand and Viet Nam.

 

The MI-MKCF Secretariat is responsible for programme coordination, project administration, monitoring, reporting, communications, stakeholder engagement and overall implementation support for MKCF-funded initiatives.

 

The MI-MKCF Secretariat is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Project Intern Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) to support the Secretariat in strengthening project monitoring, results measurement, documentation, data management, and reporting across the MKCF project portfolio.

 

The position provides an opportunity to work closely with project implementing partners, the MI-MKCF Secretariat, and relevant stakeholders across the Mekong region and the Republic of Korea. 

 

3. Objective of the Internship

The objective of the internship is to provide practical professional experience to a graduate or postgraduate student while supporting the work of the MKCF Secretariat.

 

The Project Intern (M&E)  will have the opportunity to work with an international and multicultural team and gain exposure to development projects and regional cooperation involving the five Mekong countriesCambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Thailand, and Viet Namand the Republic of Korea. 

 

4. Key Responsibilities

The Project Intern (M&E) will:

  • Assist in the preparation of project documents, reports, presentations, correspondence, and briefing materials.
  • Support monitoring and documentation of MKCF-funded development projects.
  • Maintain project databases, trackers, records, and digital files.
  • Conduct research on Mekong regional cooperation, development issues, and MKCF priority areas.
  • Assist in preparing research notes, summaries, presentations, and background materials.
  • Support the organization of meetings, workshops, conferences, consultations, and other MKCF events.
  • Assist with participant coordination, meeting materials, minutes, and follow-up actions.
  • Support the preparation of communication and visibility materials, including project stories, newsletters, presentations, and digital content.
  • Assist in collecting project results, photographs, success stories, and other relevant information.
  • Provide administrative and coordination support to the MKCF Secretariat.
  • Undertake other relevant tasks assigned by the supervisor. 

 

5. Qualifications

The candidate should:

  • Be a graduate or currently pursuing postgraduate studies in international relations, international development, development studies, economics, public policy, business administration, political science, regional studies, communications, project management, environment or a related field.
  • Have a strong interest in Mekong regional cooperation and international development projects.
  • Possess good research, analytical, writing, and organizational skills.
  • Have a good command of written and spoken English.
  • Be proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Canva.
  • Ability to maintain databases, spreadsheets and project trackers.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Be able to work independently and as part of a multicultural international team.
  • Previous internship, research, volunteer, or work experience in international organizations, development cooperation, government, research institutions, or related fields will be an advantage. 

 

6. What the Internship Offers

The Project Intern will have the opportunity to:

  • Gain practical experience in regional cooperation and international development.
  • Work directly with development projects supported by the Republic of Korea.
  • Gain exposure to development initiatives across the Mekong region.
  • Develop skills in project coordination, monitoring, research, reporting, and communication.
  • Participate in regional meetings, workshops, consultations, and other professional activities.
  • Work in a multicultural and international professional environment. 

 

7. Duration and Stipend

The internship will be for six (6) months, on a full-time basis, based at the MKCF Project Office in Bangkok, Thailand.

 

The Intern will receive a monthly stipend of USD 1000 (One Thousand United States Dollars) for the duration of the internship, subject to the applicable policies and budget provisions of the Mekong Institute/MKCF Secretariat.

 

8. Supervision

The Project Intern will work under the overall supervision of the MKCF Project Team and will receive guidance from members of the MKCF funded project PRIME 2.0 as appropriate. 

 

9. Application Requirements

10. Confidentiality

The project Intern shall maintain confidentiality regarding all non-public information, documents, project data, correspondence, and other materials accessed during the internship and shall comply with applicable policies and procedures of the Mekong Institute and MKCF Secretariat.
