Location: Chiang Mai, Thailand | Status: Full Time | Report to: Accounting Manager
Are you an accounting professional who is detail-oriented, analytical, and committed to maintaining strong financial standards? CPI is seeking an Accountant based in Chiang Mai who will support accurate financial recording, reconciliation, reporting, and compliance across the organization. The role will work closely with the Accounting Manager to ensure financial transactions are properly recorded, supported, and aligned with GAAP, donor requirements, and organizational policies.
The position will be responsible for inter-company transactions, journal preparation, cash and bank reconciliations, balance sheet reconciliation, Budget vs. Actual analysis, salary and shared cost allocations, and monthly and quarterly financial reporting. The Accountant will also support internal controls, verify financial documents and coding, coordinate across offices, and help ensure that financial information is accurate, complete, timely, and ready for reporting and audit purposes.
In this role, you will:
Primary Responsibilities
- Liaise between CPI Offices on cross charges to ensure proper bookkeeping and accurate recording in the accounting system.
- Prepare the inter-company transactions journal and complete supporting documents in a timely manner for CPI Offices accepting the recharge.
- Receive and verify the completeness and accuracy of inter-company transactions charged across CPI Offices.
- Support the team in ensuring compliance with GAAP, organizational policies, standards and donor requirements in recording project activities expenses.
- Ensure that all the financial statements and records comply with applicable laws and regulations.
- Verify and validate the consistency of account codes and proper application of cost centers in alignment with Sun system setup
- Ensure all financial documents are complete, accurate and complied with organizational policies.
- Prepare and assist supervisor in producing monthly and quarterly financial reports as per the set timeline. Ensure all the financial data meet the required quality standards such as timeliness, accuracy, completeness, consistency etc.
- Provide guidance and support to the operation team in establishing and maintaining an effective internal control system appropriate with the context of operation.
- Ensure all financial transactions are timely and accurately recorded in the accounting system in accordance with GAAP.
- Support supervisor in ensuring timely and consistent preparation of monthly/quarterly HQ reporting and any other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
- Prepare and analyze monthly Budget vs. Actual (BvA) for the projects to ensure all expenditures incurred are properly allocated, recorded, reported, and fully supported in accordance with financial policies and donor requirements.
- Support the Manager in preparing and process monthly salary and shared cost allocations to projects, ensuring accuracy, proper supporting documentation, and compliance with approved budgets, donor requirements, and organizational policies.
- Support the Manager in preparing comprehensive financial management reports and final financial statements, including financial analysis to support strategic decision-making.
Regular Responsibilities
- Record the financial data and upload into the Accounting system.
- Perform regular cash/bank reconciliations and ensure the transactions are sufficiently supported with all the required supporting documents.
- Review and analyze all financials on a regular basis and ensure the data entered into the accounting system follows GAAP and CPI’s accounting procedures.
- Perform balance sheet reconciliation, preparation and follow-up of aging reports
- Ensure expense documents are completely signed with accurate coding and supported with all necessary documents
- Ensure all the financial reporting templates and reports follow the required quality standards
- Prepare and support to supervisor the balance sheet accounts are reconciled on monthly and or on quarterly manner
- Ensure an internal control system is in place in the Thailand office.
Organization Representation
- Represent CPI in its relationship with funding agencies and occasionally with partners to ensure sufficient support for planned activities.
- Represent the country office in presenting the financial, partners and operational situation to HQ.

What We’re Looking For:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or commerce
- At least 3-5 years’ experience in related roles.
- Relevant accounting experience, including journal preparation, account reconciliations, and monthly closing and financial reporting.
- Experience with inter-company transactions, project cost allocations, and Budget vs. Actual (BvA) reporting.
- Experience in an NGO or donor-funded organization and familiarity with donor financial requirements are an advantage.
- Experience using accounting software; experience with Sun Systems is an advantage.
- Strong accounting skills, with the ability to maintain accurate records, prepare journal entries, and perform account reconciliations.
- Ability to prepare and review journal entries, verify supporting documents, apply account codes, project codes, and cost centers correctly, and maintain accurate, complete, and traceable accounting records.
- Strong reconciliation skills, including cash, bank, balance sheet, and inter-company accounts.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for reviewing, reconciling, and analyzing financial data.
- Ability to use accounting software accurately and efficiently. Experience with Sun Systems is an advantage.
- Understanding of account codes, project codes, cost centers, salary and shared cost allocations, and Budget vs. Actual reporting.
- Ability to identify discrepancies, investigate their causes, and follow up on outstanding items.
- Good understanding of internal controls and compliance with financial policies and donor requirements.
- Clear communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to coordinate effectively across offices.
- Ability to work independently, organize tasks, manage competing priorities, and meet accounting closing and reporting deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail, accountability, and professional integrity, with a commitment to confidentiality and continuous learning.
