Background/IRC Summary: The International Rescue Committee started working in Thailand in 1976 in response to the influx of refugees from Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia. Today, we serve people uprooted from Myanmar, also known as Burma, who began crossing into Thailand in 1984. The IRC is aiding nearly 140,000 refugees in nine camps along the Thailand-Myanmar border, providing drinking water and food as well as services like health care, sanitation, legal assistance and resettlement processing, and services to prevent and respond to gender-based violence, and to promote women’s empowerment.
The IRC has recently commenced the USAID-funded Project for Local Empowerment, which works to build the technical, management, and leadership capacities of community-based organization (CBO) partners to deliver efficient and effective health, education, legal, and women’s protection services, and distribute food and cash transfers, for migrants and refugees living in six provinces and nine camps in Thailand, as well as for IDPs living in four states and two regions in eastern Burma. PLE also directly addresses the legal and policy environment in Thailand that creates roadblocks for Burmese seeking to access their rights, through advocacy and other interventions.
Job Overview/Summary: The Senior Protection Trainer has key responsibility in 1) to provide daily technical support to protection partner to implement protection activity proposed from proposed and in line with protection strategy and 2) to responsible for designing and implementing capacity building of protection program.
Major Responsibilities:
1. Technical support to protection partners
- To be key person to provide daily technical support for K-LAC to implement protection activities for PY5
- To be focal person to coordinate with PLE/Partner Development team to mentor and monitor progress and provide daily support for K-LAC
- Report to PLE Protection Coordinator and PLE Partner Development Coordinator about achievement and issue need support or intervention from senior management relate to K-LAC’s implementation and propose plan for access to justice for Karen State
- To conduct capacity building activity for KLAC
- To support other protection sub-grantee which assigned by Protection Coordinator
2. Protection capacity building
- Take lead to develop capacity building plan and capacity building activity according to PLE Protection Strategy PY5-6.
- To be key trainer for capacity building on rule of law and alternative dispute resolution for protection activities.
- To connect with other resource person for capacity building activity of protection program both along border and inside Myanmar
- To support PLE Protection Manager for community justice activity in migrant community
- To support PLE Protection Coordinator (TH/MM) to design and implement capacity building activities including support to protection sub-grantee and partner for capacity building activity.

Job Requirements:
Education: University Degree on Social Development or Law or Social Science
Work Experience: 3 year experience as trainer on issue related to protection and access to justice ; experience on working with refugee and migrant along Thai Myanmar border ; fluency in develop training curriculum and influent facilitation skill.
Demonstrated Skills and Competencies: Good management skill and able to work in team with diversity ( languages, ethnicity and gender) , good mentor . Excellent in Microsoft Office.
Language Skills: fluency in English, Burmese and Karen.
