Education Consultant
TERMS OF REFERENCE
Background
Suwannimit Foundation developed a project entitled Protection Mainstreaming in Migrant Education with the aim of assisting four migrant learning centers in clarifying their strategies towards providing meaningful education opportunities for the children under their care.
Part of the project is the recruitment of a qualified education expert to assist the management of these learning centers in identifying fundamental areas of improvement to ensure that the learning centers are equipped with the appropriate skills and strategies to work in parallel with the existing educational platforms both in Thailand and in Burma thereby minimizing the adverse effects of imminent closure of the centers due to funding constraints.
This consultancy work is expected to be completed within 4-6 months which can be accomplished part time.
Responsibilities:
Task 1: Facilitate the development of a 3-year strategic planning for four learning centers
The Education Consultant will facilitate series of workshops to assist the learning centers in defining their direction taking into account the challenges they are currently facing and the impression that there are existing education channels for their children of which there is no need to keep the learning centers open.
Task 2: Facilitate the identification of core subjects and the learning hours required per grade. This will also include developing a monitoring framework to assess the skill level of children
As part of transition, it is essential that the levels of children are at par with the requirements required by a Thai or Burmese education. This way, these children do not have to lose years repeating the same grade/subjects. This will also facilitate the smooth transfer of children to accredited institutions.
Task 3: Review Early Childhood Development (ECD) practices and recommends areas of improvements
The ECD has not been effectively integrated into the curriculum of these migrant learning centers. Part of the task of the Education Consultant is to see through that the principles of ECD are incorporated and implemented into the system of the learning centers.
Task 4: Identify training needs of teachers and headmasters and develop appropriate training.
The teachers in these learning centers have the basic teacher’s training acquired either through formal education and/or continuing education provided by NGOs. The Education
Consultant will assess the existing capacity of the teachers to ensure that they have the right understanding and teaching methodologies. This will also increase their employment in the future.
Task 6: Provide progress report to Executive Director based on the milestone of the project.
Requirement:
1. Degree/Masters in Education or related field
2. At least 5 years experience in teaching profession, school administration
3. Familiarity with education systems in Myanmar and in Thailand
4. Familiarity with migrant education
5. Demonstrated facilitation skills
6. Fluent in Burmese and English both writing and speaking
7. Good communication, interpersonal skills
8. Good computer skills esp. word, excel and internet
