About PSC Thailand
The Palestine Solidarity Campaign (PSC) Thailand, which was formed in Bangkok on 10th December 2007, is working to raise awareness amongst the Thai population and other residents of Thailand of the injustices being constantly inflicted on the Palestinians since the imposition of Israel more than sixty years ago and to solicit support for them in their struggle for their human rights, their human dignity and the creation of a viable, independent, sovereign and contiguous state of Palestine.
PSC Thailand does not take sides as to who should represent the Palestinians. That shall be decided by the Palestinians themselves. PSC Thailand shall be independent of any political party, government or religious organization. PSC Thailand is committed to an equal opportunities policy in all its activities which are to be pursued without regard to age, colour, disability, ethnic origin, gender, religious faith, sexual orientation and political affiliation.
According to its Constitution, PSC Thailand’s Aims and Objectives are as follows:
The organization is established to campaign:
for the right of self-determination for the Palestinian people;
for the right of return of the Palestinian people;
for the immediate withdrawal of the Israeli state from the occupied territories;
against the oppression and dispossession suffered by the Palestinian people;
in support of the rights of the Palestinian people and their struggle to achieve these rights;
to promote Palestinian civil society in the interests of democratic rights and social justice;
to oppose Israel's occupation and its aggression against neighbouring states;
in opposition to racism, including anti-Jewish prejudice and the apartheid and Zionist nature of the Israeli state.
Job Description
- Provide regular information about the situation of the Palestinian people through its newsletter and/or other publications;
- Provide speakers on the Palestinian situation for local branches, political groups, academia, trade unions, NGO’s or other interested bodies;
- Promote discussion in the media and respond to media coverage about the situation of the Palestinian people;
- Encourage the building of links and contacts between organisations here and Palestinian organisations;
- Organise and encourage visits to meet with Palestinian organisations and institutions;
- Work with trade unions, women’s groups, political parties, Palestinian community organisations, minority organisations, community organisations, cultural and progressive organizations;
and
- Coordinate and work closely with the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) Campaign Thailand in its work to convince all Thai citizens and other residents of Thailand to stop cooperating with the State of Israel and all Israeli interests (business, academic, scientific, artistic, sports etc), as long as its government refuses to comply with international law.
A PSC Thailand National Coordinator, with the status of project consultant, will be chosen to carry out this work, but not restricted to that detailed. All initiatives and ideas which achieve the aims and objectives of PSC Thailand and develop it as an effective organization will be welcomed.
Requirements
- A Thai national (only)
- Good command (spoken and written) of English
- Strong capacity to communicate
- Good sense of organization and leadership
- Degree in International Relations/Business/Social Sciences/Law/Communication (preferred but not essential)
- Some knowledge of and a sincere interest in Israeli-Palestinian issues
- Unreserved support for the cause of Palestine, its goals and modalities
Responsibilities
- Recruit and mobilize volunteers on a daily basis and / or for special events;
- Organize special events to inform Thai citizens and other residents of Thailand about the cause of Palestine (seminars, conferences, sit-in, distribution of leaflets, meetings, peaceful demonstrations etc);
- Write and submit letters and reports to inform all important stakeholders present in Thailand (academics, students, researchers, NGOs, consumers representatives, labour activists, businessmen, scientists, diplomats, civil servants, politicians etc) about the persecution and injustices in Palestine and their duty to respect International Law regarding their relationship with the State of Israel and Israeli interests;
- Create online support for the cause of Palestine (website, Facebook, Twitter, online discussion groups etc.);
- Communicate with journalists and all media representatives in order to spread knowledge about the cause of Palestine and to ensure the persecution and injustices in Palestine are becoming known in Thailand;
- Mobilize all important stakeholders (academics, students, researchers, NGOs, consumers representatives, labour activists, businessmen, scientists, diplomats, civil servants, politicians etc) to support the cause of Palestine in Thailand;
- Coordinate with the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) Campaign Thailand.
Contract and Remuneration
The position of PSC Thailand National Coordinator is envisaged to be a part-time occupation, thereby allowing the holder to follow other activities such as studies.
The first three (3) months of the initial employment period of twelve (12) months will be a probationary period. At the end of the twelve (12) months a review will be carried out as to extending the employment for a further twelve (12) months.
The salary will be 7500 Baht per month. Work-related travel outside Bangkok, such as campaigning at universities and the annual Youth for Peace workshop, will be covered by PSC Thailand.
