Position: Research Associate/Research Assistant
Manager: Water Resources Management Cluster Leader
Start date: As soon as possible
Contract period: 24 month’s renewable contract with 6-month probation period
Duty station: Bangkok, Thailand

The Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI) seeks a Research Associate/Assistant to assist in undertaking research and coordination on projects relating to water resources management considering different uncertainties including climate and non-climate factors
The appointee will be working with colleagues in the Water Resources Management research cluster at Asia Centre in Bangkok and SEI worldwide.
The Research Associate/ Assistant will report directly to the Water Resources Management research cluster leader and specific project leader/manager and under overall supervision by the Centre Director of SEI in Asia.
Specific responsibilities
1. Set up hydrological, hydrodynamic and water balance models for water resources planning purposes. Knowledge on Water Evaluation And Planning (WEAP) will be beneficial.
2. Collate and analyze data for model set up
3. Conduct spatial analysis and mapping using GIS tools (e.g. ArcGIS and QGIS)
4. Contribute to climate change analysis and downscaling
5. Conduct literature review and desk analysis
6. Contribute to project planning and implementation including field works
7. Support team to coordinate with relevant partners and agencies and manage project assigned tasks
8. Contribute to project reporting and technical documents
9. Contribute to writing research articles
10. Assist in proposal preparation
11. Conduct capacity building on modelling works to relevant partners and agencies
12. Contribute to writing peer reviewed articles, publications and etc.
13. Other duties as assigned by the supervisors (cluster leaders, project leaders and Center Director)
Essential criteria
1. At the minimum, a Master degree in water resources engineering, hydrology, hydraulics, water resources modelling and other relevant fields.
2. At least 3 years, experiences in hydrologic model, water-balance model and hydraulic model.
3. Experiences in climate change analysis
4. Experiences in using spatial analysis tools (e.g. ArcGIS and QGIS)
5. Experiences in computer programming
6. Good background in data processing and data preparation through quantitative approaches (e.g. excel spreadsheet and etc.)
7. Fluency in spoken and written English.
8. Strong motivation, personal initiative and commitment to excellence and results, as well as enthusiasm for doing scientific research.
9. Demonstrated record of interdisciplinary collaboration, partnership and team building and the desire to work in a collaborative environment with time management
Desirable criteria
1. Experiences in research and working in the Mekong River region
2. Experiences in providing training and capacity building
3. Experience in communicating scientific information to a range of different audiences.
4. Interest in working at the interface with social science and policy engagement, and qualitative approaches.
5. Knowledge of a Southeast Asian language is desirable.
