Position:  Project manager of (1 open position)

Handicap International (HI) is re-announcing the adjusted position of the Team leader (Rehabilitation project) that has adapted into Project manager.  Handicap International (HI) seeks a Project manager to be a team leader of Rehabilitation project, based in Mae Sot, Tak province, with frequent travel to 3 camps in Tak and 2 camps in Mae Hong Son province.

It works alongside people with disabilities, offering them assistance and supporting them in their efforts to become self-reliant.  Since its creation, the organisation has set up programmes in approximately 60 countries worldwide and intervened in many emergency situations.  

 

Handicap International in Thailand is currently supporting projects along the Thailand - Burma border focusing on the following:

  • Rehabilitation Project: provision of functional rehabilitation services for persons with disabilities or impairments in 5 temporary shelters (Tak and Mae Hong Son province),
  • Disability and Social Inclusion Project: Social inclusion of People with Disabilities and mainstreaming disability into humanitarian services in 5 temporary shelters  (Tak and Mae Hong Son province)
  • Growing Together Project: in 5 temporary shelters (Tak and Mae Hong Son province) focusing on enabling vulnerable children including children with disabilities, to develop their full potential on an equal basis with other children and acquire fundamental educational and social skills, as well as support to their family members and/or caregivers and,
  • Mine Risk Education Project: raising awareness activities on the risk of mines and explosive remnants of war are implemented in 9 temporary shelters (Tak, Mae Hong Son, Ratchaburi and Kanchanabui province)

 

General mission:

The Rehabilitation project manager, under the supervision of the Operational Coordinator is responsible for ensuring the planning and implementation of activities according to logistics procedures, follows-up the activities, leads the data collection process in relation to project’s indicators, coordinates team members and ensures links with other HI Thailand projects.

 

The project manager, will support the Operational Coordinator in ensuring a smooth running of the Rehabilitation project in its different dimensions: implementation, planning, reporting, budget management, supervision and monitoring.

 

Specific Tasks and Responsibilities:

  1. Participate in strategy development and planning for the Rehabilitation project in accordance with HI principles and rules.

Aim: The Rehabilitation project has a sound strategy and all the team members have a clear understanding of global objectives.

 

  1. Implement and monitor activities and budget management in the site for Rehabilitation project.

Aim: Ensure the project is run according to HI and donor requirements and progress on a timely manner against the defined objectives and indicators.

 

  1. Manage the Rehabilitation project team.

Aim: Ensure that necessary resources are available for project implementation and that the team environment is conducive.

 

  1. Monitor correct implementation of partners’ activities and promote stakeholder’s engagement.

Aim: Ensure that the framework defining the role and responsibilities of HI and project’s partners is implemented and partners’ activities monitored.

 

5: Collaborate to the project capitalization.

Aim: Ensure that good practices under the project are identified and documented.

 

  1. Contribute to the project communication

Aim: Ensure that the project inputs into the programme communication strategy.

 

Qualifications required/ Desired Profile:

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in the field of management, social scienes / developmemt, health, physio, or occupational therapy.

 

Knowledge and skills required:

  • Knowledge and at least 4 years experience in project planning and implementation.
  • Experience in budget management,
  • Strong experience in managing people.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Experience in report writing desirable, analytical & writing /reporting skills.
  • Good skills of knowledge transmission to the teams.
  • Knowledge and experience in one of the domains of intervention of the program: health OR rehabilitation OR child development OR local inclusive development.
  • Experience in disability sector strongly recommended.
  • Working experience in INGOs, community or refugee context is an added value
  • Knowledge and experience in working with partners, civil society organizations or public authorities.
  • Proficient using the Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and mail merges; email and web searches.

 

Extra requirement:

  • Minimum of 4 years practical experience in a similar position or project management.
  • Professional experience preferably with Non-profit organization or community based organizations of which 2-3 years should be at management level.
  • Experience in training / capacity building / coaching
  • Practical experience in working with vulnerable groups and local authorities.
  • Professional experience working with refugees in the Thai-Burma border, especially parents and vulnerable children, will be an advantage.

 

Other qualifications:

  • Language -  Good level of written, reading and spoken English and Thai. Knowledge of Karen or Burmese will be an advantage.
  • Active listening, sense of negotiation, self-initiative, intellectual flexibility, adaptation skills, communication skills, ability to create team spirit and to support team building, autonomy in work and experience in accompanying a team and finding practical solutions.
