We are currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of:  SBCC and Capacity Strengthening Specialist ,Wildlife Asia Project

 

The SBCC and Capacity Strengthening Specialist will provide technical assistance, training, and support to public and private organizations working to reduce demand for illegal wildlife and wildlife products. They will support training and coaching in SBCC, coordination among partner organizations and knowledge sharing, and development of SBCC strategies, materials, and tools. The SBCC and Capacity Strengthening Specialist shall work under the direct oversight of FHI 360’s Objective 1 Lead/Senior SBCC Specialist of the Wildlife Asia Project.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design strategies and tools to guide project capacity strengthening activities with Government and partner organizations
  • Coordinate the review and adaptation of existing SBCC capacity strengthening tools for use in demand reduction efforts to counter wildlife trafficking
  • Support the design, delivery, and monitoring of technical assistance plans and training to strengthen partners’ ability to design, implement, and evaluate communication/demand reduction programs utilizing SBCC methods and approaches
  • Support literature reviews, situation analyses, and environmental scans, as needed, to inform programming
  • Support development of SBCC strategies, materials, media, and implementation plans that reflect global best practices. Provide quality assurance and support to on-the-ground implementers
  • Lead knowledge sharing and partner collaboration efforts and provide support to relevant technical working groups
  • Promote sustainability of project activities with effective networking, coordination, and linkages to other programs, partners, and counterparts; capacity building of project staff; and strengthening in-country partners
  • Document and prepare reports on SBCC activities
  • Assist in SBCC-related research, monitoring and evaluation (M&E) activities

CONTRIBUTIONS:

 

Will contribute significantly to the achievement of project’s SBCC goals and M&E indicators

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Master’s degree or its international equivalent in communication, social marketing, or a related field; experience with biodiversity and/or conservation programs an advantage
  • Understanding of and expertise in behavior change communication
  • At least 7 years of experience supporting and managing communication programs in a development field, with 3 years in capacity building for communication
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to use capacity building and participatory training methodologies and adult learning principles
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in developing or supporting development of training modules
  • Demonstrated technical and presentation skills, including training and facilitation of workshops, learning sessions
  • Demonstrated ability to document activities and workshops, and evaluate effectiveness of capacity building/training activities
  • Experience working in Asian countries, with an emphasis on Thailand, Vietnam, and China preferred
  • Logical and analytical thinker
  • Excellent English verbal and written communication skills with one or more languages (Thai, Mandarin and/or Vietnamese) a plus
  • Excellent people skills and proven ability to work as an effective team member
  • Ability to set priorities while multi-tasking, and meet deadlines
  • Ability to travel within the Asian region

 

EXPERTISE AND COMPLEXITY:

 

Demonstrated expertise and experience in behavior change communication and training/capacity building; in planning, conducting and evaluating training programs and developing training modules in a development field; project documentation; some experience in working in biodiversity and/or conservation programs, preferable wildlife crime

 

TYPE AND NATURE OF CONTACTS:

 Will attend meetings with USAID RDMA, Country Missions; will have regular contact with officials and relevant staff from NGOs, other organizations and groups involved in the Wildlife Asia project; possible meetings with other USG and donor agencies

 

SUPERVISORY AND BUDGET RESPONSIBILITY

No supervisory responsibility; need to know how to budget project activities e.g., workshop, training, travel costs, how to monitor expenses and prepare expense reports relevant to the activities

 

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Full-time office job; position will have a working space/office in the Wildlife Asia Project office at 208 Wireless Road, Bangkok with travel within Thailand and the Asian region
