Position title:                   WWF Thailand Program Officer – GEF Projects

Directly reports to:           WWF Thailand Conservation Director,

Duration:                          one year - expandable

Location:                           Bangkok, Thailand

 

 

Context:

The Global Environment Facility is the biggest global financial mechanism for the environment aiming to support Country’s commitment to the Rio’s Environment Conventions. In 2013 WWF became a GEF Agency responsible to assist governments in the development, implementation and management of GEF financed projects.

 

WWF Thailand Office is looking for a Program Officer to develop and manage a GEF projects portfolio for Thailand and Greater Mekong region. Starting 2017 Thailand and countries of the region will start to plan priorities for GEF 7 (2018-2022). Currently WWF Thailand is due to execute for UNDP a Wildlife Crime project.

 

The WWF Thailand Program Officer will report to WWF Thailand Conservation Director and will work closely with the WWF GEF Agency Director hosted in WWF Thailand.

 

Major Function:

Work with WWF Thailand and WWF GEF Agency (WWF-US) to develop WWF GEF (Global Environment Facility) strategic approaches and support developing GEF Project proposal and supervise execution by WWF.

 

The position aims to support the current WWF GEF Agency Director in its global functions that includes developing a plan for WWF Thailand engagement with GEF.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Contribute to the development of current WWF GEF work and support the definition of a potential WWF Thailand GEF programmatic planning.
  • Disseminate knowledge about the GEF and WWF GEF Agency work to relevant WWF staff.
  • Identify and develop dialogue with Thai authorities and partners potentially interested in developing a GEF project with WWF.
  • Involved in development proposal of WWF GEF Project in the Asia region.
  • Provides technical support for the development of ideas into WWF GEF programs and projects in line with GEF’s priorities. Reviews and facilitates project proposal quality and eligibility.

 

Working Relationships

Internal: Daily contact with WWF Thailand conservation program leaders, WWF GEF Agency Director (hosted in WWF Thailand) and WWF Thailand program staff and departments.

External: Interacts regularly with Thai Authorities, WWF GEF Agency Staff (WWF-US based), WWF-International, other WWF National Organizations and Program Offices, associate organizations, consultants, executing agencies.

Communicates as needed with representatives of conservation organizations, universities, NGOs, corporations, and/or government agencies.

 

nimum Requirements

  1. Education/Experience: Master’s degree in international affairs, international development, communications, environmental policy, or a related field.  Position requires if possible 2 years of experience in Multilateral Institutions/ large NGOs engaging strategic dialogue and project management with Thai authorities in environmental areas. Experience with GEF policies, process and project is a plus.
    Knowledge of project proposal tools such as Open Standards and relevant practical experience is a plus. Fluent in Thai and outstanding skills in written and oral English.
