Job Summary: 

The Regional Major Gifts Fundraiser reports directly to the Fundraising Director of Greenpeace SEA and has responsibility to plan, manage and coordinate the solicitation of major gifts to Greenpeace and ensure the appropriate stewardship of these gifts to deliver income growth. This role will supervise a major gifts fundraising team, provide mentoring and leadership on major gifts fundraising techniques, carry out general organizational management, administration, finance, and strategic program development.

Focusing on donations of EUR 5,000 and upwards, this income falls into three main streams as follows:

1) Cultivating and stewarding gifts from major donors and foundations outside of Southeast Asia, in collaboration with other Greenpeace offices, primarily but not limited to US, UK and Switzerland.

2) Leading the development of local (within South East Asia) foundation fundraising

3) Cultivating and stewarding individual major donors from the Greenpeace Southeast Asia databases and the personal networks of the Senior Management and Board.

The Regional Major Gifts fundraiser carries out the coordination and management of all fundraising strategies related to major gift income within the region. In order to do this they maintain a large network of internal regional Greenpeace relationships that are key to the success of major gift fundraising including the Executive Director, campaigns team, finance teams and fundraising teams as well as key staff at both GPI and other Greenpeace offices.

Currently one member of staff, the Regional Funding Coordinator, reports to this position. Major gift income has been identified as a key area of income growth and it is envisaged that the major gifts team will increase in numbers over the next three years. The Regional Major Gifts Manager will be expected to create and deliver this growth strategy, including the strategy for expanding the team in line with identified strategic priorities.

The Regional Major Gifts Manager will be expected to travel extensively both within the Southeast Asia region and internationally, sometimes for two weeks at a time. Also they will need to develop and maintain excellent relationships with all major donors and foundations through skilled and personalised communication covering face to face, telephone and written communication. 

This is a full-time position based in either Bangkok, Jakarta and or Manila. Citizens of Thailand, Indonesia and Philippines are encouraged to apply.

Key Duties

  1. Produce the annual and multi-year strategies, workplans and budgets for all types of major gift fundraising within Greenpeace Southeast Asia. These plans and budgets will be developed alongside the Fundraising Director, Programme Director and Finance department at Greenpeace Southeast Asia and in coordination with other Greenpeace funding offices.
  2. Line manage the Regional Funding Coordinator including conducting annual performance appraisals and ensuring continued professional development.
  3. Coordinate and manage support and capacity building activities to encourage and develop the fundraising efforts of other Greenpeace NROs when they are generating funds for Greenpeace Southeast Asia from international funders.
  4. Play a leadership role in the global major gifts community to promote strategic fundraising opportunities for the work of GPSEA, to increase support from international major donor and foundations.
  5. Identify key priority projects, create appropriate Case for Support materials and monitor ongoing campaign projects funded by major donors or foundations.
  6. Coordinate and manage the annual stewardship and reporting schedule to ensure all donors receive high quality and timely reports on their funding commitments.
  7. Ensure a current and central overview of all proposals, funding given and fund transfers to Greenpeace Southeast Asia, in order to support Major Donor/Foundation funding and ensure this information is available for a timely report back to donors as well as internal support structures
  8. Lead and develop local and regional foundation relationships and income within the Southeast Asia region. This will include researching, approaching and developing new relationships across the region as well as maintain the current database of foundations.
  9. Research, cultivate and manage a portfolio of high net worth individual supporters from our country databases and from other relevant networks within Southeast Asia.
  10. Maintain a comprehensive pipeline system for tracking cultivation and solicitation of the portfolio of major donors and foundations.
  11. Prepare monthly, quarterly, and yearly reports and financial analyses for the Senior Management Team and Board, to track progress in engaging major donors and foundations.
  12. Manage the yearly regional major gifts budget.
  13. Perform other job-related duties as requested or assigned by the Fundraising Director and Executive Director.
  14. Other duties as directed

Educational Background & Fundamental Qualifications

Level of Education:      University graduate

Field of Study:               Preferably Business Administration, Marketing or Communications. A Masters in International or NGO Development (or similar) would be an advantage.

Work Experience:         Five plus years of proven leadership and management experience in a senior fundraising position, preferably in the international NGO sector.

  • Knowledge and/or experience in fundraising reporting and analysis
  • Strong skills in written and spoken English (required) and another regional language (desired)
  • Knowledge and/or experience in training, mentoring, and developing staff
  • Knowledge and/or experience in data management tools and practices

WORKING HOURS

Normal hours of work for full time Employee will be forty (40) per week or (5) days in a week, at 8 hours per day excluding an hour lunch break. This will be from Monday to Friday, between the hours of 8:30 am to 6: 30 pm. Ordinary hours of work may be varied as agreed between staff and the line managers.

LEAVE

A permanent employee will be entitled to the following leaves:

Annual Leave: 20 days

Sick Leave:  30 days

Parental Leave:  As per labor laws and Greenpeace policy

Long Service Leave: 2 months paid leave after 5 years of continuous service

Compassionate leave: maximum of 5 days for the death of significant others

In determining salary offer for this position, Greenpeace applies its Salary Grading Process, taking into consideration the job description and applicant’s previous experience, and the organization’s salary grade.
