Food & Ecological Agriculture Campaigner

Job Summary:

As Campaigner for Food and Ecological Agriculture, you will lead the implementation of campaign work in Thailand and serve as a Greenpeace Southeast Asia’s (GPSEA) representative for the campaign in the overall region. You will also help develop strategies for the effective delivery of projects within this campaign, while also managing projects and providing support to teams as needed.

This is a full time position based in Bangkok working on food and agriculture issues, as well as working in countries within or outside the region as required.

Key Duties

  1. Strategic Leadership & Development
  • In conjunction with the Food & Ecological Agriculture Regional Coordinator/Issue Expert or Country Director, contribute to the development of GPSEA Food & Ecological Agriculture campaign project plans in the region in alignment with GPSEA strategic objectives and global campaign objectives
  • Provide expertise and input on the development of regional and national campaign strategies, regional and national campaign projects and funding proposals where relevant
  • Contribute to strategic discussions related to Food & Ecological Agriculture between GPSEA, other National & Regional Offices (NROs) and Greenpeace International (GPI). This will include both written and verbal discussions as well as attendance of specific meetings
  • Keep abreast of the external debate and political and social trends in order to identify campaign opportunities and contribute to overall campaign vision
  • Facilitate learning by documenting and sharing lessons and best practices within GPSEA and the global organization
  • Provide expertise and input into the development of global campaign policies as needed
  1. Project Management & Implementation
  • Lead the implementation of campaign activities, including non-violent direct actions in cooperation with Greenpeace offices and other international units, and in accordance with Greenpeace principles in order to achieve the agreed campaign objectives
  • Identify and support the coordination of research, investigation and science needs of assigned project(s)
  • Coordinate information flow within the campaign and other departments
  • Act as spokesperson on Food & Ecological Agriculture work in Thailand , and as needed within the SEA region
  • Participate in regular progress reviews and evaluations of Food and Ecological Agriculture projects
  • Manage program budget according to Greenpeace policy, and participate in regular progress reviews and evaluation of Food & Ecological Agriculture campaign projects
  • Work with Communications Officer in developing media strategies and communications products output plan on Food & Ecological Agriculture projects
  • Organize and oversee the work of campaign volunteers, interns and short-term contractees, if any
  • Perform other duties, as assigned by Project Lead
  1. Liaison with key stakeholders
  • Develop and maintain relationships with external parties such as academics, media, industry, political players, other NGOs, and major donors, in support of the national, regional and global campaign objectives and in cooperation with other Greenpeace offices
  • Represent GPSEA at relevant international and local meetings, conventions and press conferences, in cooperation with other Greenpeace offices and other international units, in order to further agreed global campaign objectives
  • Develop funding proposals for major donors, and subsequent campaign reporting and representation, liaising with major donors and other supporters of GPSEA work

Educational Background & Fundamental Qualifications

Level of Education:

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience

Field of Study:

Arts or Sciences degree, or equivalent experience working on food,agriculture or environment -related issues

Work Experience:

●         At least 5 years of campaigning experience in the Southeast Asia region

●        Leadership, management and communication abilities, commensurate with the need to lead & manage cross functional, cross cultural and multilingual teams through the planning and implementation processes. This is to include demonstrated commitment to consultation processes and team delegation.

●        Knowledge and/or experience in planning and conducting primary field research.

●        Knowledge and/or experience in developing, delivering and evaluating campaign strategies and tactics.

●        Fluency in written and spoken English.

●        Knowledge and/or experience in speaking to media as a spokesperson.

●        Knowledge and/or experience in developing and managing the implementation of campaigns .

●        Knowledge and/or experience in IT security management .


THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW BEFORE APPLYING TO THIS POST
 

WORKING HOURS

Normal hours of work for full time Employee will be forty (40) per week or (5) days in a week, at 8 hours per day excluding an hour lunch break. This will be from Monday to Friday, between the hours of 8:30 am to 6: 30 pm. Ordinary hours of work may be varied as agreed between staff and the line managers.

LEAVE

A permanent employee will be entitled to the following leaves:

Annual Leave: 20 days

Sick Leave:  30 days

Parental Leave:  10days

Maternity Leave: as per government rules and regulations and Greenpeace policy

Long Service Leave: 2 months paid leave after 5 years of continuous service

Compassionate leave: maximum of 5 days for the death of significant others

In determining salary offer for this position, Greenpeace applies its Salary Grading Process, taking into consideration the job description and applicant’s previous experience, and the organization’s salary grade.
