Responsibilities of the advertised position:

Baan Dek Foundation is currently looking for a professional and dedicated local Impact Advisor / Research Assistant who will commit to contribute to the overall goals of the Impact and Innovation Team and provide specialized support for the Family Support Program.

 

The Family Support Program works on a basis of 3 phases:

 

1) Outreach: Mapping out and reaching new communities in need of critical support to essential services.

 

2) Identification and Case Management (Individual Support Program): After community outreach, Social Advisors identify children and parents facing critical situations. Once identified and referred, BDF provides a tailored support plan and resources to the ISP case. These support mechanisms focus on meeting basic needs, such as: motivation to send the child to school and registration, child protection counseling, vaccination support, etc.

 

3)Research: Conduct research to understand the issues facing children at risk of being separated from their families, as well as those left behind during migration. Research will be used to raise awareness and develop campaigns to address these issues, as well as develop life skill education regarding the importance of and strategies to prevent violence and keep families together. 

 

The employee will work under direct supervision of the Director Team in Chiang Mai.

 

Role and responsibilities include - but are not restricted to:

  1. Together with the Impact and Innovation team, contribute to the development and Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) of BDF programs, particularly the Family Support Program, through:
    1. Program design and coordination;
    2. Development of guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures;
    3. Support for team training of field implementation staff;
    4. Development of monitoring systems;
    5. Data entry and analysis for program monitoring when new tools have been developed, in order to provide Program Managers with usable finished products;
    6. Communication and reporting on impact of BDF to Founder/ED/Directors, partners and beneficiaries; and
    7. Support on the drafting of reports and proposals to donors and corporations.

 

  1. Provide specialized support for the Family Support Program (a World Childhood funded program):
    1. Research and provide information around Thai national laws, policies, etc.;
    2. Support with primary desk review of literature around how migration affects child development;
    3. Support with primary data collection at the Thai borders, around Chiang Mai and potentially other areas (support may include language interpretation);
    4. Conduct focus groups and individual interviews with children and caregivers, as well as in-depth interviews with other stakeholders;
    5. Develop and maintain local partnerships with government agencies and nonprofit organizations who serve or support our target population; and
    6. Actively engage in and contribute to forums or meetings with academics, government officials or NGOs in Thai and English, and build upon our existing advocacy work.

 

  1. Support implementation of other local programs and child development activities developed by Baan Dek Foundation to support mostly migrant communities working on construction sites.

Required skills:

Nationality: Preference will be given to Thai Nationals.

Qualifications:

Language: Native Thai, fluent spoken and written English (knowledge of Thai-Yai, Burmese or Khmer considered an asset).

 

EducationA degree or other education in a relevant field, such as social science, political science, international development, etc.

 

Experience:

  • Experience related to development or social work.
  • Experience in research, project coordination, or creation of organizational/instructional tools considered an asset.
  • Experience in developing evidence-based programs, educational content, or Monitoring & Evaluation systems considered an asset.
  • Experience with non-profit organizations or in the humanitarian sector will also be strongly considered.

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a multicultural team.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to provide and receive positive criticism in a sensitive manner.

Working hours:  Full time - Monday to Friday (flexible schedule) and occasionally on weekend & evenings

Salary: Starting at 22,000 THB (to be defined based on experience and qualifications) Complementary advantages provided (transportation and phone allowance, etc.)
