Media & Communications Intern

Position Title: Media & Communications Intern

Contract Period: 2- month minimum;

BACKGROUND

The Australian Federation of AIDS Organisations (AFAO) is the national federation for the community response to HIV in Australia. It provides leadership, coordination and support to the country’s policy, advocacy and health promotion on HIV. AFAO’s International Program is based in Bangkok and contributes to the development of effective policy and programmatic responses, particularly in the Asia and Pacific region. It has supported community-based responses to HIV across the region for three decades. 

 

AFAO is the Principal Recipient of the Sustainability of HIV Services for Key Populations in Asia Program (SKPA Program). The program is a multi-country grant funded by The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (GFATM) covering eight (8) countries: Papua New Guinea (PNG), Timor-Leste, Malaysia, Philippines, Laos, Mongolia, Bhutan and Sri Lanka. It aims to promote sustainable services for key populations (KPs) at higher risk of HIV exposure including sex workers, men who have sex with men, transgender people and people who use drugs, in the region.

 

The grant will promote the scale-up of necessary interventions and their long-term financing in each country. Specifically, the objectives of the program are to scale-up prevention services to key populations and retain people living with HIV/AIDS in the treatment cascade (Service Delivery); Secure strategic information to inform program design (Strategic Information); secure long-term sustainability of service delivery (Financing Sustainability); Strengthen community responses and systems for scale-up of delivery services (Community Systems Strengthening); and address barriers to service access including human rights and gender-related (Stigma and Discrimination).

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

AFAO is seeking a media and communications intern to work closely with the SKPA Program Officer in updating and maintaining the SKPA program website.

 

Specific Task Includes;

 

  1. Keeping the SKPA website updated and active with appropriate knowledge products, strategic information, news/updates;
  2. Support in copy editing, designing the layout and sharing the profiles/snapshots of countries on SKPA website and other social media channels;
  3. Managing the communications, media engagement and social media promotional activities  to showcase learnings and achievements from SKPA programme;
  4. Developing promotional articles, stories and videos from communities and other stakeholders to promote the SKPA programme, successful interventions and flag issues;
  5. Prepare bulletin about SKPA programme to update the stakeholders on achievements, issues/challenges and way forward and disseminate through appropriate channels;
  6. Consolidating /collecting online analytical information regarding Monitoring and Evaluation and contribution towards tracking qualitative and quantitative indicators of the programme;
  7. Provide assistance to SR partners on practical usage of media and communication channels to promote organization and programmatic activities/achievements;
  8. Any other task assigned by the International Programs Manager or Executive Director;

 

DELIVERABLES

  • Developed branding and media and communication plan complimenting the programmatic workplan in close consultation with SKPA Program Officer
  • Lead on SKPA program external communications and media engagement
  • Coordination of SKPA program external communcations and advocacy messages across all program partners.
  • Coodination of SHIFT communications messages and social media presence around global and regional forums, and SKPA program events.
  • Dissemination of SKPAprogram strategic information outputs through social media and other communication channels.
  • Support to country SR on areas of media engagement and communications
  • Technical input to the communications activities of each country SR
  • Promotional articles, stories and videos from communities and other stakeholders developed, and disseminated through SKPA website
  • Bulletins produced and shared containing stories and achievements from SKPA countries
