Established in 1951, IOM is the leading inter-governmental organization in the field of migration and works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners.   1. ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT AND SCOPE:

 

Under the overall supervision of the Project officer and direct supervision of the Project Assistant, the successful candidate will provide translation and interpretation support for the Emergency and Post-Crisis Unit’s projects “Humanitarian Assistance to Myanmar Muslims and Special At-Risk Groups in Thailand” and “Psychosocial Support to Women Victims of Trafficking in Thailand”.

 

  1. RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:

 

  • In coordination with the Project Staff, provide interpretation and translation services to the Project Staff in Nonthaburi and Surat Thani Welfare Protection Centres for Victims of Trafficking;
  • In coordination with the Project Staff, provide interpretation and translation services in Vietnamese, Khmer, Lao and Burmese and Thai (or English) for psychosocial activities in project locations in Nonthaburi and Surat Thani provinces;
  • Undertake duty travels as necessary to provide interpretation assistance in Burmese and Thai (or English) to areas of intervention in Thailand; and
  • Perform such other duties as may be assigned.

  1. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

 

  • Has valid passport and work visa
  • Able to provide two reference checks upon request
  • Minimum one year of experience in interpretation/ translation from one of the following languages; English and vice versa: Vietnamese, Khmer, Lao and Burmese
  • Demonstrated willingness to work as part of a team in multicultural environment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Fluency in written and spoken English or Thai
  • Complete ‘Training for Interpreter of Assistance and Protection of Trafficking in Persons’ conducted by the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security is an advantage
