Deputy Chief of Party

Headquartered in Thailand, Kenan Institute Asia (Kenan) is a leading, not-for-profit development organization providing sustainable development services in Southeast Asia (see www.kenan-asia.org). Kenan is currently seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Deputy Chief of Party (DCOP) to manage a five-year, US $30 million project to develop Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM), and technical and vocational education and training (TVET) in Thailand. Kenan has been provisionally selected (pending due diligence) to lead this project, which is expected to begin activities in March 2015. 

The DCOP’s primary responsibilities are aimed at providing oversight and management on accounting, monitoring and evaluation, administrative support for the project, and oversee grant management to project partners (key government partners) and all project sub-grants and subcontractors.  The position requires significant management skills, broad general development knowledge, technical knowledge of STEM and/or TVET, and experience managing large development projects in Asia.

Specific Duties:

Support the COP in order to achieve project goal, objectives, milestones and targets.

Oversee and management on accounting, monitoring and evaluation, administrative support for the project

Coordinating closely and communicating regularly with the project donor and key stakeholders on all program related matters.

Developing and implementing annual work plans with the cooperation of the donor, government, academic and private sector partners.

Ensuring the effective and efficient management of staff, consultants and sub-contractors to ensure the timely and quality completion of all deliverables and reporting requirements in accordance with the project agreement.

Maintaining excellent relationships with the donor, key partners and other stakeholders.

Additional tasks and responsibilities as necessary to fulfill deliverables.

Desired Qualifications

Master’s Degree in education, development or a related field.

Direct experience managing large-scale, development initiatives for major project donors such as USAID, ADB or the UN, in Asia (Southeast Asia experience a plus).

Minimum ten years’ experience working on education, TVET or other human capacity development projects.

Excellent management, cross-cultural, and interpersonal skills.

Excellent communication, written and presentation, skills in English.

Knowledge of or experience in Thailand, or Thai language skills is a plus.
