IUCN, International Union for Conservation of Nature, is seeking a volunteer to join our Thailand Country Programme.

 

BACKGROUND

Coca-cola Foundation and IUCN partnership project Phase 2 has been developed based on the success of policy development and local community’s engagement in community based solid waste management in Phase 1; August 2018-July 2019. Koh Yao Yai Municipality regulations on waste management has been officially endorsed by the Provincial Governor and now in an initial stage of enforcement in the target areas. Policy improvement will be carried out in a more integrated manner by exploring opportunity to introduce financial instruments as incentives to increase stakeholder engagement in the integrated waste management schemes. Awareness raising and capacity building for local community members, especially on home based waste segregation and improving local recycle rate will be continued in Phase 2, including the engagement of private sectors in waste management improvement. Collaboration with Prunai and Koh Yao Noi sub-district on policy development and collaboration will be prioritized in Phase 2, which will ensure that waste management model at Koh Yao Yai sub-district could be replicated in the neighboring areas sharing the same ecological corridors.

The project’s phase 2 (2019 – 2020) aims at achieving policy improvement, increase of recycle rate and improving waste management systems at household and sub-district level in key strategic locations in Koh Yao District, Phang Nga province, in order to significantly reduce marine plastic pollution and catalyze key changes in local and national policies on plastic waste management.



 

SPECIFIC DUTIES

Under the direct supervision of the Field Coordinator,Coca-Cola project, the volunteer will perform the following tasks:
• Compile information and prepare documents and reports (English and Thai) within the framework of the project
• Support the Field Coordinator in organizing and implementing the activities in Koh Yao Yai
• Support the Field Coordinator on day-to-day coordination with local communities, related government agencies, and others local stakeholders.

 

REQUIREMENTS

 

• University degree in environmental science, international relations, development studies, communications, social sciences or related area
• Experience in working in environmental projects, preparing project documents and organizing project activities would be an asset.
• Good command in written and spoken English and Thai
• Excellent written and communications skills
• Administrative skills in the organizing of meetings and events

• Willing to provide service as unpaid volunteer
• Willing to be based at Koh Yao Yai, Phangnga province
