Background/IRC Summary: The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is the sole provider of health care in three refugee camps: Ban Mai Nai Soi and Ban Mae Surin in Mae Hong Son Province, and Tham Hin in Ratchaburi Province. Altogether, the three refugee camps have population of over 24,000 refugees/displaced persons receiving health care from over 250 health workers, who are refugees/displaced persons themselves. While these health workers have years of on -the-job training, there has yet to be developed a standard curriculum for training that is recognized outside refugee camps.
With the rapidly changing situation in Myanmar comes the realization that refugees may return to Myanmar without recognition of their job training. IRC has partnered with SGS (Thammasat University) to support these efforts through the development of 23 teaching modules for a Public Health curriculum largely based upon the Public Health Supervisor Level 2 (PHS-II) curriculum from the University of Community Health, Magway, Myanmar. The resulting Certificate in Public Health (CPH) curriculum has approximately 400 teaching hours for theory and additional practicum at the camp health facilities. The training is expected to take about 15 months to complete. Current training started in July 2014 and will be concluded at the end of 2015.
Job Overview/Summary: The Medical Interpreter and Trainer (MIT) will involve with the health worker training program (Certificate in Public Health, CPH training) in Tham Hin temporary shelter. The MIT will carry out any necessary translation of medical literature and training documents into Burmese, and work closely with the Thammasat University training team to draw up training plans and training schedules, develop necessary training documents in local language, and, together with the Thammasat University training team, provide training to Certificate in Public Health trainees.
Main objective of this position is to provide additional trainings to student attending the Certificate in Public Health training in Tham Hin shelter using the approved curriculum developed by Thammasat University School of Global Studies.
Major Responsibilities:
1. Provide technical interpretation and translation of medical and public health literature and training materials from English to Burmese.
2. Develop training materials and training documents, including PowerPoint slides and posters, together with Thammasat trainers in local languages.
3. Together with Thammasat trainers, prepare lesson plans and lesson schedules for the CPH training.
4. Work together with Thammasat trainers to provide public health training to CPH trainees in Tham Hin.
5. Involve in the student progress evaluations, which include students class works, practical exams and theory exams.
6. Together with the Thammasat training team, maintain students records and progress reports using appropriate databases.
7. Provide a weekly and monthly update on progress report and challenges to the supervisor.
8. Assist to prepare internal and donor report as needed.
9. Adhere to IRC global and national policies and procedures.
10. Represent IRC positively and professionally in both internal and external relations and situations.
11. Perform other duties as appropriate and as requested.

Job Requirements:
Education: MD, MBBS or Bachelor degree in nursing; MPH or master in public health discipline preferable
Work Experience: At least two years experience working as a trainer or in a job that involves training

Language Skills: Fluency in Burmese and English; Other local languages, such as Karen and Thai is an advantage.
Working Environment: The field office is based in Chatpawai, a town in Ratchaburi and is only two hour’s drive from Bangkok. The displaced people’s shelter where the applicant will be working is 45 minutes drive from Chatpawai. Both the town and he shelter are low risk areas.
