Background

Doctors without Borders Thailand (DWBT) is a Thai company working to increase access to medical and mental health services in Thailand. DWBT is neutral, impartial and is solely medical in nature with no religious, political or human rights objectives. DWBT has started a project to explore emergency humanitarian needs along the Thai-Myanmar border of Maehongson province.  The project is based in Mae Sariang.

 

Main Purposes

Support the Project Medical Referent through delegated representations, tasks and other responsibilities. Support, participate and contribute in assessing, identifying, defining, proposing, coordinating and implementing medical/Nursing activities in accordance with the DWBT standards, policies, protocols and values, in order to achieve the overall objectives of the project.

 

Main responsibilities

  • Liaise and work in collaboration with the Project Medical Referent in establishing networks and build good relations with government agencies and other NGO’s.
    • Liaison with community leaders and key stakeholders in the area and support the project team in understanding the community’s health needs and other social issue.
    • Upon delegation, he/she will represent DWBT in official meetings with other humanitarian agencies
    • Maintain a list of networks/ agencies and promote good public relations for collaboration
  • Collaborate with PMR and support the team in the design of the project’s strategy and approach of medical/nursing activities 
    • Support the development and design of the medical strategy document
    • Propose program of medical and nursing activities for the target population based on identified health needs
    • Under the supervision of PMR, he/she will be involved with the Health Information System and participate in the collection and reporting of health data and other epidemiological data
    • Assist the PMR in organizing all medicines, medical equipment/instruments and supplies needed for the project
    • Ensures all administrative procedures such as monthly reports and existing data management tools are in order
    • Other related tasks such as flexibility at work and be able to assist in the different activities not included in this primary job description.
    • Specific Medical/Nursing Accountabilities – only in the case of immediate emergency need, the position is expected to be flexible and support the PMR in active delivery of nursing-care as the programme scales up.
  • Contribute to the DWBT (MSF) identity, values and principles by reflecting, discussing and contributing to the advocacy mandate.

Education

  • Essential nursing diploma for general or specialized health services (Bachelor in science of Nursing Desirable); Specialization or training in tropical medicine would be an asset

Experience

  • Essential previous working experience of at least two years in relevant jobs.
  • Desirable working experience in INGO or other NGO’s in developing countries.

Languages                         

  • Mission Language (Thai and English) essential; Local Working Language (Karen) Desirable

Knowledge

  • Essential computer literacy (word, excel, internet)
