Main Purpose of the role
The Head of Programmes role is responsible for the delivery of World Animal Protection’s global campaign strategies in Thailand through inspiring, dynamic, and creative campaigning to improve the welfare of animals while increasing World Animal Protection’s impact, influence, and profile.
The Head of Programmes manages the campaign team and leads, advises, empowers, and enables the team members to deliver campaign objectives, goals, and impact. He/she will play an advisory role to ensure that the campaign team plays a key role in driving and influencing the animal welfare and protection agenda and policies and practice by mobilizing public action and influencing opinion through the delivery of engaging and impactful strategic campaigns that generate real positive change for animals.
Duties and Responsibilities
Functional
Leadership / Programmes Strategy Development and Implementation
- Provide leadership and direction for design and delivery of World Animal Protection campaigns in Thailand in alignment with World Animal Protection’s global strategy.
- Ensure the strategic campaign goals are delivered in a timely and effective manner in co-operation with the global campaign teams and all other relevant staff.
- Develop and implement campaign strategies, tactics and operational plans that change minds, behavior, policy and practice of the public, government and business, moving them to protect animals.
- Develop and maintain relationships with a network of key external stakeholders relevant to the execution of the campaign objectives, strategies, and plans.
- Provide strategic guidance, campaign planning and management support to the campaign team to ensure effectiveness, consistency and that all delivery is in support of World Animal Protection’s organisational goals and strategy.
- Collaborate cross departmentally (primarily with Communications and Fundraising departments) to ensure campaigns build public support for World Animal Protection’s vision and mission as well as delivering on specific campaign objectives.
- Stay abreast of current media, political and scientific developments of relevance to World Animal Protection’s agenda.
Internal and external liaison/engagement and coordination / External Representation
- Develop and maintain relationships with key external organisations, teams within World Animal Protection and in the wider animal welfare movement to pursue campaign objectives and wider organisational goals, including those relating to brand, communications, fundraising and resource management.
- Participate in and actively contribute to partnership forums, working groups and networks related to animal welfare work.
- Represent World Animal Protection at public activities and media, build and maintain effective relationships with external stakeholders such as the business community, scientific and government sectors, and the animal welfare community at large, to achieve campaign objectives and to strengthen the profile and credibility of World Animal Protection.
- Build and maintain relationships with key external stakeholders including business, government, and non-governmental organizations on issues of relevance to World Animal Protection’s agenda.
- Effectively present information to a variety of audiences.
Reporting and budgeting
- Prepare budget with input from the team members to support the strategy, tactics and operational plan and manage the budget efficiently and effectively.
- Ensure regular and effective reporting as required by Country Director.
- Working collaboratively with International Programme Team to develop budgetary proposals for projects in Thailand as required.
- Monitor campaign expenditure against budget.
- Take overall responsibility for the effective and efficient management of delegated budget in accordance with World Animal Protection’s financial procedures and local governance regulations.
Skills, Experience and Education
Essential
- Proven experience in leading the design and development of high impact social change campaign and people movement strategies that have achieved change, preferably in a global context.
- Proven experience in the operational and tactical delivery of campaigns to a high standard, with evidence of strategic goal achievement.
- Strong programme expertise and proven experience in programme management.
- Strong knowledge of socio-economic, political, environmental and animal welfare issues in Thailand and Asia Pacific especially ASEAN countries.
- Experience working in international organization and in a multi-cultural environment.
- Strong strategic abilities in campaign, programme and project management including project preparation; monitoring and evaluation and budgeting and financial management.
- Strong leadership qualities with the ability to communicate direction, gain commitment to action and develop mutual co-operation across teams and with external stakeholders.
- Experience in leading teams and motivational skills to inspire others to deliver outstanding campaigns.
- Team player with excellent project management and co-ordination skills and ability to develop and maintain good working relationships across internal departments, global teams and with diverse external stakeholders, including government at different levels, to create change.
- Strong interpersonal, networking, negotiating skills and organizational skills.
- Extensive experience of representing issues in the media.
- Excellent communications skills (written, oral and presentation both Thai and English).
- A passion for nature and animal welfare and a strong commitment to the aims and values of World Animal Protection.
Qualifications
- Social media savvy with IT and computer user level proficiency with common software.
- 10 years experience in related field.
- Degree level education in related field preferred.
Desirable
- Knowledge of animal welfare issues, especially Wildlife and Animal in farm or experience of conservation or environmental issues.
- High level of awareness of global and regional social, economic, political, and environmental issues relevant to animal welfare.
- Experience of matrix management in a medium/large sized organisation.
- Experience of working in an international NGO environment.
