The Shoklo Malaria Research Unit (SMRU) is a field station of the faculty of Tropical Medicine, Mahidol University, Bangkok, Thailand, and is part of the Mahidol-Oxford Research Unit (MORU) supported by the Wellcome Trust, UK. The main objective of SMRU is to provide quality health care to the marginalised populations living on both sides of the Thai-Myanmar border in the Mae Sot area, Tak province. This is achieved by the dual activities of research and humanitarian services, with an emphasis on maternal-child health and infectious diseases.

 

The post holder will be dedicated to work on TB program, mainly on the TB clinics to provide medical services and clinical care. He/she will be involved on all activities of the program. There will be a requirement to work at other clinics of SMRU as well and in collaboration with the Mae Tao Clinic.

 

Job title:             Medical Doctor (TB/HIV program)

Location:            Mae Sot (and will move to Mae Ra Mat by the end of the year)

Probation:         SMRU can terminate employment at 3 months if performance inadequate

Report to:          Program Technical Coordinator

 

Responsible for:  Diagnosis and Clinical care of patients under care and contribute to reach objectives of TB program and good quality of medical and social care. Participate to all activity

 

Tasks:

Patients care and management

•    Responsible for case management and supervision of clinical care for all patients under responsibility

•    Provide medical care for difficult cases of TB, MDR-TB and TB/HIV patients.

•    Make the decision for patient referral and coordinate for smooth transfer of patient in coordination with clinic in charge and program director.

•    Ensure adherence to clinic hygiene and infection control procedures.

•    Monitor regularly clinical work and patients care of medical team

•    Provide clinical expertise at Mae Tao Clinic health facility.

 

Coordination

•    Participate in the meetings (internal and external).

•    Collaborate with other partners (Mae Tao clinic, Ko Ko hospital, Myanmar Government hospitals and other CBO)

•    Contribute to advocacy events related to TB/MDR-TB and HIV program

Monitoring and program coordination

•    Ensure proper and timely supervision for recording and collecting and updating files of patients and data of TB, MDR-TB, Co TB/HIV and PICT program.

•    Contribute to pharmacy stock management in clinic site in coordination with pharmacy team

•    Contribution of proposal writing and budgeting for the program

•    Contribute to programmatic management of TB projects

•    Conducting and contributing in clinical trials done at SMRU

 

Staff Management

•    Contribute to supervise medics, nurses, counselors and health workers in their respective service provision on their routine provision of services to patients.

 

Essential Criteria

•    Certificate of medical doctor

•    Experience in medical/clinical care for TB and HIV including MDR-TB

•    Fluent in English and Burmese

•    The ability to motivate and  lead a team

•    Commitment and honest

•    Empathy to patients and colleague

•    Respect the team members, patients and other colleague

•    Accurate and serious in work, punctual

•    Good communication skills

•    Interest in clinical research

•    Good mathematic skills (for calculation of drug doses and fluids for children)

•    Good attention to detail and accuracy

•    Motivated and able to work under pressure

•    Ready for any assignment required by the unit

 

Desirable Criteria

•    Experience in clinical research
