The Shoklo Malaria Research Unit (SMRU) is a field station of the Faculty of Tropical Medicine, Mahidol University, Bangkok, Thailand, and is part of the Mahidol-Oxford Research Unit (MORU) supported by the Wellcome , UK. The main objective of SMRU is to provide quality health care to the marginalized populations living on both sides of the Thai-Myanmar border in the Mae Sot area, Tak province. This is achieved by the dual activities of research and humanitarian services, with an emphasis on maternal-child health and infectious diseases
SMRU is located in Mae Sot and Mae Ramat where the main laboratories are based and receive samples from sites along the Thai-Myanmar border. The haematology laboratory of SMRU (located in Mae Ramat from January 2023) runs routine analysis of blood samples (clinical cases and study patients) and projects on the characterization of genotypes and phenotypes of inherited red blood cells disorders (G6PD deficiency and haemoglobinopathies), causes of anaemia, causes of neonatal jaundice.
The laboratory technician will have the following tasks:
Job title: Hematology Lab Technician
Location: Mae Sot (and will move to Mae Ramat by the beginning of the next year)
Probation: SMRU can terminate employment at 3 months if performance inadequate
Report to: Head of Hematology Laboratory and Hematology Laboratory Research assistant
Staff under supervision: Hematology Laboratory assistants
