Job Title:    Project Officer            
Reports to: Urban Education Project Director, Thailand
Location:    Bangkok, Thailand

 

The Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) is an international non-governmental organisation with a mission to accompany, serve, and advocate for the rights of refugees and forcibly displaced people.  The organisation was founded in November 1980 and is present in over 50 countries. JRS undertakes services at national and regional levels with the support of an international office in Rome. The style of JRS service is direct and personal, working in situations of greatest need, seeking the long-term wellbeing of refugees and displaced persons, while not neglecting their immediate and urgent needs. JRS offers opportunities to a wide variety of staff, local and international, while maintaining a realistic and localised scheme of salary/stipend, insurance, etc.  

 

In Thailand, JRS manages four programmes spread throughout urban and rural areas serving refugees and asylum seekers. JRS Thailand country office is in Bangkok, with Project offices Mae Hong Son and in Bangkok. The main areas of work include education, psychosocial services, protection, and emergency assistance. Role:

The Project Officer is responsible for facilitating, supporting education activities and help managing the daily operation of the project under the supervision of Project Director. The project has four main components: a) English and Thai language course, b) vocational and digital skills training, c) internship and scholarship program, and d) community exchange and social emotional learning. He / She will help the project team in implementing day to day activities of the project. The two core staff members will work closely with JRS-URP and the Country Office in implementing the services for refugees and asylum seekers in Urban setting.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

 

Education

  • Support the students by providing information in accessing appropriate educational opportunities and counseling. 
  • Support Thai and vocational course teachers in setting up their teaching activities and materials.
  • Seeking internships opportunities and scholarship programs for students enrolled in UEP. 
  • Assist Project Director in scholarship screening process.

 

Stakeholder Management 

  • Actively collaborate and coordinate with other JRS team members, CBOs and NGOs especially those working in the urban education area within Thailand.  
  • Actively seeking opportunities to collaborate and coordinate with local Thai communities to promote understanding and awareness on refugees issues.
  • Support team to organize community exchange activities and Social Emotional Learning session.
  • Ensure good communication and trusting relationship between JRS and stakeholders, in a supportive and cooperative fashion.
  • Attend meetings as required.

 

Administration and communication

  • Monitoring the maintenance of the office equipment’s
  • Conduct overall monitoring, coaching and evaluation of JRS education activities in the urban context within Bangkok and give recommendations as well as technical inputs as necessary. 
  • Assist team in collecting and analyzing accurate data, systematic filing and giving recommendations based on the data analysis. 
  • Communicating regularly with the Project Director, reporting on all major issues and developments in the field. 
  • Respect and consider cultural differences in all decision making by ensuring community responsibility and participatory approach.
  • Support the direct implementation of activities in all areas of work whenever possible.
  • Perform other tasks as required by Project Director.

 

Qualifications and Experience

  • Thai Nationality.
  • Fluent in Thai and English in both oral and written.
  • Minimum bachelor’s degree in social work, education, social science or related profession.
  • Understanding of and empathy with refugee and asylum seekers communities.  
  • Adaptability, patient, self-motivated, and service minded.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with good communication, managerial, diplomatic skills and able to work in a team. 
  • Ability to work successfully in a multi-cultural with limited resources and challenging environments.
  • Excellent computer skills, being able to use Microsoft Office and online office platform.
