RECOFTC Thailand invites applications for the position of Project Manager, Kuan Kreng Landscape Conservation and Restoration Project through Carbon Financing. The successful candidate will be based in the RECOFTC Thailand office in Bangkok. The contract duration is for 12 months. The position is for Thai nationals only.
About the project
Restore Nature (Thailand) Limited and RECOFTC are working to support the Department of National Park, Wildlife and Plant Conservation (DNP), the Royal Forestry Department (RFD), and local communities to protect and restore the Kuan Kreng peat swamp forests through the “Kuan Kreng Landscape Conservation and Restoration through Carbon Financing (KKL)” project.
Ecosecurities, a technical consultant engaged by New Forests Asia has completed the feasibility study on the KKL Project. Based on the findings, Restore Nature, through RECOFTC, wants to continue working with the DNP, RFD and the local communities to develop the Project Design Document required for the carbon project and to pilot activities in the area. The KKL project covers the Thale Noi and Bor Lor non-hunting areas and national reserved forests under the management of DNP and RFD which is around 70,715 ha.
Under the agreement with New Forests Asia, RECOFTC is tasked to complete: 1) Stakeholder engagement strategy 2) Baseline socio-economic data 3) community impact assessment and monitoring plan 4) Free, Prior, and Informed Consent (FPIC), benefits sharing, and grievance mechanism 5) Community based integrated forest fire management and 6) Project coordination support with all Government agencies and local stakeholders.
The carbon credits generated from the project will be shared between the communities and the project developers including DNP, RFD and Restore Nature accordingly as per regulations and a benefit sharing mechanism. The revenue generated from the sale of carbon credits will be used by Restore Nature to fund the ongoing costs of the project and encourage communities to be involved in the project from the onset.
Specific tasks and duties
The Project Manager is a member of RECOFTC Thailand team and works under the supervision of the Country Director, RECOFTC Thailand, with technical support from the Senior Strategic Advisor at the RECOFTC Main Office. The Project Manager is responsible for overseeing project implementation and coordination, including the completion of the Project Design Document and other documents required for TVERS carbon project applications with Thai government agencies. The Project Manager will be responsible for the completion and achievement of all six key tasks of RECOFTC outlined in the project description above.
Specific duties and responsibilities include:
•Providing leadership and oversight to implement the project work plan based on the Scope of Work as agreed with Restore Nature (Thailand)
•Managing the project daily based on RECOFTC’s standards for project management, financial systems and procurement practices
•Managing staff daily in accordance with RECOFTC’s culture, ethics and core values
•Taking a lead role to provide coordination support for Restore Nature (Thailand), Ecosecurities, RFD, DNP, and relevant partners to fulfill the project design document and required documents for carbon project application through TVERS
•Working with the country director to design and implement workplans effectively
•Guiding and providing support to field coordinators, community coordinators, and partners to ensure timely and high-quality completion of all deliverables
•Preparing relevant documents and reporting as agreed with New Forests Asia
•Representing RECOFTC, New Forests Asia, TAFF2, and Restore Nature (Thailand) as the focal point for the project work with key stakeholders and external actors
•Performing any other task assigned by the country director
Qualifications and Experience:
The Project Manager will have the following essential and desirable qualifications and experience:
Essential
•Master’s degree in natural resources and environmental management, environmental studies, development studies, social sciences, and/or related fields
•At least eight years of professional experience working in environmental and/or peat swamp conservation or similar field
•Proven experience working with government agencies, civil society, NGOs and communities at the national or international level in project development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation and provision of policy advisory services, especially those related to biodiversity and wetland conservation, protected area management and similar field
•Proven record in managerial skill, project formulation, planning and control skills
•Strong multi-stakeholders coordination and communication
•Practical experience and comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the synerg of climate change mitigation, adaptation, biodiversity conservation and the ecosystem services provided by wetlands
•Ability to lead the project and manage the team, with a collaborative attitude
•Proficient written and spoken English and Thai
•Willingness to work in the field site with frequent travel
•Thai nationality only
Desirable
•Proven working experience in the areas of environment and conservation in the southern Thailand would be an asset.
