WWF Thailand collaborates with the Office of Natural Resources and Environmental Policy and Planning (ONEP), Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental for building the awareness about OECMs and Biodiversity in Thailand by bringing in a celebrity (Gulf Kanawut) to join with the project. WWF Thailand and OECMs project teams aim to create VLOGs to capture and create awareness about OECMs / Biodiversity in Ratchaburi areas as represent one of remaining biodiversity value outside protected areas and support ecological landscape connectivity, showcasing the definition and one of examples that will explain what OECMs / Biodiversity are. These VLOGs will serve as a key communication tool for advocacy, awareness-raising, and fundraising, aligned with WWF’s mission and Memorandum of Understanding between WWF Thailand and ONEP. The VLOGs will primarily target a general audience in Thailand, with content in the Thai language and English subtitles for broader accessibility. The production location will be at Ratchaburi / Suan Phueng / Khao Krachom.

 

Summary and scope of work

We are seeking an experienced production company with strong capabilities in VLOG production, including high-resolution video, photography on the ground and bird eye’s view, and editing.

 

Scope of work

1. Pre-Production Planning:

• Collaborating with WWF Thailand and ONEP team members to develop an outline and shooting schedule for the VLOG.
• Crafting a narrative framework that highlights the definition of OECMs and remaining of existing Biodiversity outside protected areas in Thailand by using the examples of Ratchaburi / Suan Phueng / Khao Krachom areas.

2. Production:

• Capturing high-resolution footage and photography that effectively narrates the project’s stories.
• Conducting interviews with key stakeholders, including celebrity, government agency representative, and WWF representatives.
• Filming in the designated project locations, covering significant stories of OECMs and Biodiversity.

3. Post-Production:

• Editing and assembling the captured materials into at least 4-6 minutes documentary video. (optional can be edit for 1, 3, and 5 minutes)
• Adding English subtitles for accessibility.

 

About OECMs / Biodiversity

Thailand’s forests are essential to the health of our planet, acting as natural “lungs” that absorb carbon and protect biodiversity. Through the implementation of biodiversity conservation beyond protected areas, Other Effective Area-Based Conservation Measures (OECMs) is a key measure to mobilize with crucial accelerate for ecological landscape connectivity. We are working to ensure that wild animals can move freely across these forested and ecological corridors areas, preserving the integrity of these ecosystems.

OECMs is a national agenda of Thailand to endorse the 2020 Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework adopted under the framework of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and Thailand’s recently announced 30 by 30 commitment. But with only 400,000 hectares under consideration for designation as protected areas, the identification of lands that qualify under the OECMs process may hold the key to meeting Thailand’s goals. This is a timely opportunity for ONEP and its key partners WWF Thailand and IUCN Thailand to lead the national dialogue on OECMs and become a global leader in the OECM designation of government lands.

What is OECMs: “A geographically defined area other than a Protected Area, which is governed and managed in ways that achieve positive and sustained long-term outcomes for the in-situ conservation of biodiversity, with associated ecosystem functions and services and where applicable, cultural, spiritual, socio-economic, and other locally relevant values”

“Sites that deliver the conservation of biodiversity outside of protected areas”.

For an area to be recognized as an OECM in Thailand, it must meet the following criteria:

• Location: The area must be situated outside legally protected areas in Thailand
• Biodiversity Value: Preliminary information must demonstrate the area's significance and value for biodiversity.
• Geographic Definition: The proposed area must have a clearly defined geographic boundary.
• Biodiversity Potential: Information should show the area’s potential to support significant biodiversity.
• Management Structure: There must be an existing organizational structure or mechanisms in place to facilitate oversight and management of the area.
• Conservation Focus: Oversight and management should prioritize conserving biodiversity in its natural habitat.
• Long-Term Conservation: Evidence must demonstrate that biodiversity value has been conserved over the long term.
• Equity and Fairness: Oversight and management must prioritize equity and fairness in their approach.

Additionally, it is essential to obtain consent from the rights holders for the recognition of the OECM.

Dates

December 2024 to February 2025

 

Required Skills and Experience 

• Proven experience with portfolio in producing VLOG / short VDO
• Proficiency in operating relevant kit (for both stills and video, including audio for interviews and soundbites)
• Experience working in challenging and remote locations
• Strong portfolio demonstrating track record of delivering high quality content
• Familiarity with conservation and environmental issues is an advantage
• Experience working with celebrity is an advantage
• Experience with using drones and ownership of a drone is a strong advantage.
• The successful candidate should have their own equipment and appropriate insurance.
• The consultant will adhere to WWF's Photography & Caption Delivery Guidelines.

 

Functional competencies

• Ability to craft a narrative that resonates with target audiences, using storytelling to convey the significance of OECMs / Biodiversity
• Strong skills in high-resolution videography, photography, editing, and post-production, with experience in creating impactful visuals and integrating elements like music, voiceovers, and subtitles.
• Proven ability to work collaboratively with WWF’s communications and project team members, ensuring smooth planning, capturing, and production aligned with the project timeline. 

Deliverables [remove / add / elaborate as see fit]

• Storyline development and production for OECMs / Biodiversity trip with Khun Gulf
• Main VLOG VDO: A 3-5 minutes high-resolution VDO in Thai with Thai and English subtitles (separately).
• Vlog video 1.5 x 2 mins x 2 versions (with subtiltle in Thai and English)
• Teaser video x 1 version (with subtiltle in Thai and English)
• Photo Shooting at least 10 Main images of celebrity, 10 main images of the landscape, 10 main WWF staff working on site
• Shooting days : 4 days at Khao Krachom and อุทยานธรรมชาติวิทยา (Fix date with celebrity 14 – 15 Jan. 2025 - fixed)

• B-roll and photos of celebrity, staff on site 

Payment/Compensation

Payments will be made in installments, with a portion to be paid upon commencement and the remainder upon successful delivery of all required outputs.

Institutional Arrangement

The consultant will report to the WWF Thailand communications team and collaborate closely with the project’s manager and team members. 

Evaluation Method/Criteria

Consultants will be evaluated based on:

• Relevant experience and portfolio.
• Proposed approach and methodology.
• Cost-effectiveness.

Documentation Required

Interested consultants must submit:

• Updated Credential
• Portfolio showcasing previous relevant work.
• Proposed budget, including daily rate and editing expenses.
