Background:
The Committee for Coordination of Services to Displaced Persons in Thailand (CCSDPT) was established in 1975 as a network for non-governmental organizations (NGOs) working to support displaced populations in Thailand. CCSDPT facilitates coordination among its members, represents their collective interests to the Royal Thai Government, international organizations, and embassies, and serves as a platform for information-sharing and advocacy.
At its peak, CCSDPT comprised 52 member agencies assisting refugees from Laos, Vietnam, and Cambodia. Today, it consists of 13 members, primarily focused on supporting displaced persons from Myanmar. The organization is funded through membership contributions and subscriptions from international organizations.
Key Function:
The Advocacy Coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing advocacy initiatives that advance the organization’s mission, values, and goals. This position requires expertise in policy research, stakeholder engagement, and campaign coordination to influence public policies and create lasting social impact.
Key Responsibilities:
- Advocacy Strategy and Planning:
- Develop and implement comprehensive advocacy plans aligned with organizational priorities.
- Monitor and analyze policy developments, legislation, and regulations relevant to the organization's mission.
- Stakeholder Engagement:
- Build and maintain relationships with government officials, community leaders, advocacy groups, and other stakeholders.
- Coordinate coalition-building efforts with partners and allies to amplify advocacy campaigns.
- Campaign Management:
- Design and execute advocacy campaigns, including public awareness initiatives, lobbying efforts, and community mobilization.
- Prepare and disseminate advocacy materials, such as position papers, policy briefs, fact sheets, and presentations.
- Communications and Public Relations:
- Collaborate with the communications team to develop messages that resonate with target audiences.
- Represent the organization at meetings, events, and conferences to promote advocacy efforts.
- Capacity Building:
- Train staff, volunteers, and partners in advocacy skills and tools to strengthen the organization's advocacy capacity.
- Organize workshops, forums, and events to engage and empower stakeholders.
- Monitoring and Evaluation:
- Track and report on the progress and impact of advocacy activities.
- Use data and feedback to refine strategies and ensure alignment with goals.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Education:
Bachelor’s degree in public policy, Political Science, Communications, or a related field. Advanced degrees are a plus.
- Experience:
- 2-5 years of experience in advocacy, policy analysis, campaign management, or a related field.
- Proven track record in engaging stakeholders and influencing policy change.
- Skills:
- Strong research, analytical, and critical thinking abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in project management and the ability to handle multiple priorities.
- Familiarity with legislative and regulatory processes.
Preferred Qualities:
- Passion for social justice, human rights, or related causes.
- Demonstrated ability to work in diverse and multicultural settings.
- Creativity and resourcefulness in addressing challenges.
