Background/IRC Summary:
The International Rescue Committee (IRC), an international non-government organization founded in 1933, responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people whose lives are and livelihoods are shattered by conflict and disaster to survive, recover, and gain control of their future. The IRC works on relief, rehabilitation, protection, post-conflict development, resettlement services and advocacy in over 40 countries and 22 U.S. cities.
The Thailand country program in one of the IRC’s longest standing, having served various displaced populations since 1975. A sizable population of displaced people from Myanmar have obtained support and services from the IRC in Thailand since the late 1980s. Despite Myanmar’s ongoing political and economic progresses, Thailand continues to attract large numbers of conflict affected people from Myanmar, often into dangerous and exploitative living and working conditions. The shifting context continue to challenge the IRC to adapt the modality of its operations and scope of work in a number of ways. The IRC Thailand conducted basic gender analysis for Protection/WPE/Livelihood in Mae La camp in 2018 and will expand to Umpiem and for Health sector in Mae La, in 2019. The gender analysis all IRC to gain better understanding on differences in roles, activities needs and opportunities between women, men, boys and girls and how these differences impact their lives. The gender analysis provides contextual information for program planning and design, or program adjustment/realignment.
Job Overview/Summary:
The Gender Analysis will collect data through focus group discussion (FGD) and key informant interview (KII) in 2 camps including Mae La and Umpiem in Tak province. The focus group discussion and in-depth interview will take place during October – November 2019 including preparation and finalization of raw data. The consultant will be part of gender analysis facilitator team to ensure data completion and accuracy in assigned template.
