Job title:             Public Health Coordinator

Location:            Mae Ramat, TAK Province

Probation:          SMRU can terminate employment at 3 months if performance inadequate

Report to:          MCH program lead

Staff under supervision:  N/A

 

Introduction
The Shoklo Malaria Research Unit (SMRU) is a field station of the faculty of Tropical Medicine, Mahidol University, Bangkok, Thailand, and is part of the Mahidol-Oxford Research Unit (MORU) supported by the Wellcome (UK). The main objective of SMRU is to provide quality health care to the marginalized populations living on both sides of the Thai-Myanmar border in Tak Province. This is achieved by the dual activities of research and humanitarian services, with an emphasis on maternal-child health and infectious diseases.

 

This combination of health care and research makes SMRU unique. The research agenda is driven by the questions we face in our clinical practice and whether clinical or laboratory based, our studies are designed to be of relevance to the population we serve.

 

Tasks and Responsibilities

This position will mainly work in Tak Province along Thailand-Myanmar border.

  • Coordinate with Thai public health authorities at district and provincial level on SRH and related activities.
  • Advocacy of the need for a responsive sexual and reproductive health (SRH) service within migrant populations as a benefit to Thai society and Thai public health authorities.
  • Explore any collaboration/cooperation opportunity with Thai public health authorities in terms of maternal and child health (MCH), including SRH demand.
  • Collaborate with program lead in terms of strategic plan for MCH/SRH issue promotion and advocacy 
  • Collect and prepare preliminary analysis of research, policy and reference document.
  • Develop action plans to ensure project is on time, on budget, and meets all required deliverables and reporting.

 

Position Requirement

Education

  • Diploma or Master in Public Health or social science or relevant.

 

Work Experience

  • Minimum 4 years of relevant scope of work.
  • Previous experience in advocacy for public health collaboration with Thai local health authority.

Skills

  • Communication, interpersonal, planning and representation skills.
  • Microsoft office, good command of Word and Excel is required.
  • Mature, polite and a team player is essential.
  • Culturally sensitive with the ability to work with a multi or cross-cultural team.
  • Basic analysis of quantitative and qualitative data.

 

Languages and other

  • Thai language is a requirement
  • English, Burmese and Karen language skills would be an asset.
  • Understanding of Thai Public and migrant situation on the border.
  • Ability to move freely in Tak Province and in major cities.
