Role:
Food Safety is undoubtedly the top priority of a food rescue program. It is one of the reasons hotels, retailers and other food donors hold SOS with high regard as we have been providing consistent quality service for the past 3 years in delivering good quality surplus food to people in need. However, SOS is also starting to grow past its initial capacity for inspection and will most likely continue to grow in the future. Therefore, Food Safety and Quality Specialist (FSQS) is required to help SOS grow while maintaining, if not upgrade, its service.
FSQS will provides technical advice and actions to ensure food safety and quality along the food rescue operation. This technical advice and actions shall include, but is not limited to, establishing new food safety guideline to cope with growing operation, setting up a system to keep track of food safety in operation, and training operational staff, food donors and food recipients in handling food safely.
Tasks and responsibilities
• Formulate policies and strategies within organization, contributing to evaluations of safe food handling,
• Prepare and implement training courses or workshops on food safety, and provide specific technical advice,
• Design and conducting research, data collection and analysis, and prepare technical reports,
• Develop food safety and food control training materials and curricula,
• Lead the assessment of operation, partners and potential partners’ food safety practices,
• Review food safety and quality policies, and lead in customizing the most effective food safety practices for SOS and its partners,
• Contribute to the review of legal frameworks and secondary legislation and food standards applicable for food rescue operation;
• Provide guidance on strengthening food safety risk assessment processes in microbiological, chemical or other risk disciplines, including emerging food safety risks, as well as use of the risk analysis framework by food control authorities;
• Take lead in the implementation of food safety management systems (such as Good Hygienic Practices, Pre-Requisite Programmes and HACCP) in food rescue operation;
• Monitor food quality in food rescue operation. This includes bringing skills or taking samples for quality testing,
• Work closely with other managers especially Logistics Manager to ensure food safety throughout SOS Operation,
• Work with food processing specialists to develop techniques to increase food donation’s shelf-life.
Qualifications :
• A Bachelor’s or relevant degree in food science, food and nutrition policy, food technology
• 5 years relevant experience in one or more areas related to food hygiene and systems development, food safety risk assessment, quality and safety management in value chains, planning and operating food control capacity development,
• Proficient with food safety training
• Experience in team training
• Fluent in written and spoken Thai and English
• Comfortable with field data collecting
• Microsoft Proficient
• Ability to work with community
• Thai Nationality only

Skills, Knowledge & Experience
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including; advanced Word, advanced Excel, competent PowerPoint and competent Outlook application
• Full understanding of FSMS systems, with ability to implement, train, and maintain on daily basis with extreme confidence
• Ability to work closely with chef’s and food purveyors ensuring their donations are maximized and safe for communities
• Team management
• Demonstrated ability to work harmoniously in a team environment.
• Well-developed written communication skills in Thai and English and ability to write clear and concise training documents for staff, donors, and recipient communities receiving
• Ability to maintain high level collaborative communication with your direct managers
• Demonstrated initiative, time management skills and ability to work to prioritize competing demands and meet deadlines.
• High level of accuracy and attention to detail
• Willingness to work and adapt within a fast-paced, highly dynamic workplace
• The flexibility to work out of hours and for extended hours during peak periods
Reports To: Country Manager
Key Relationships:
Internal: Operations Manager and SOS team in Bangkok and a driver
External: Food Donors, Recipient Communities, Strategic Partners, Stakeholders, and Service Providers
Work Time:
• 40 hours a week, must be able to work some evenings and weekends.
• 10 Days’ Vacation and 14 public holidays.
• Sick leave with doctor’s proof after 3-day period, up to maximum 20 days.
• Probation period of 90 days.
Compensation:
Negotiable based on experience.
Health coverage after probation period of 90 days.
