Leibniz Institute of Agricultural Development in Transition Economies (IAMO)

invites applicants for research assistant under the research project:

“Perceptions of inequality through social comparisons and transference on subjective wellbeing: a micro perspective on reference groups”

We are looking for a research assistant with very good English language skills for a Thai/German research project.

The research assistant will assist a team of Thai and German researchers in their project work and in particular a survey that will take place in Chiang Mai and Surin provinces. However, the assistant will be based in Chiang Mai where his/her main work will take place.

What we offer:

  • Up to 6 months contract for al full-time position starting in December 2019 or latest in January 2020
  • A salary of up to 27,000 Bath per month, depending on language skills, previous experiences, and educational level.
  • The contract will be signed with the German research institute (IAMO), which will also provide a letter of reference after the contract was concluded successfully.

 

Expected duties:

  • Close cooperation with project team leaders, in particular with view to the planned survey work
  • Thai/English translation of interviews, texts, etc. for foreign researchers
  • Organizing field trips (arranging interview dates, contacting local officials, etc.)
  • Carrying out standardized and semi structured interviews (after a training) independently
  • Supervising a team of student enumerators
  • Literature search, collecting secondary data from government offices
  • Travels to rural areas are necessary for the work
     

Requirements:

  • Fluency in English
  • Flexibility and willingness to work long hours during peak times
  • Team working spirit and close cooperation with the German and Thai project partners
  • Willingness to frequently travel in within Chiang Mai provinces and (on demand) Surin provinces, including in rural areas (travel cost will be refunded in addition to the salary)
  • Previous project work or survey work and background in agriculture, economics, or sociology would be an asset
  • Driving license and the ability to speak and understand local languages would be a valuable asset
