Job Title:      Project Assistant – MTB-MLE Program                            

Reports to:  Project Manager

Location:      Mae Hong Son, Thailand

Starting date:  1 March 2025

 

The Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) is an international non-governmental organisation with a mission to accompany, serve, and advocate for the rights of refugees and forcibly displaced people.  The organisation was founded in November 1980 and is present in over 50 countries. JRS undertakes services at national and regional levels with the support of an international office in Rome. The style of JRS service is direct and personal, working in situations of greatest need, seeking the long-term wellbeing of refugees and displaced persons, while not neglecting their immediate and urgent needs. JRS offers opportunities to a wide variety of staff, local and international, while maintaining a realistic and localised scheme of salary/stipend, insurance, etc. 

In Thailand, JRS manages four programmes spread throughout urban and rural areas serving refugees and asylum seekers. JRS Thailand country office is in Bangkok, with Project offices in Mae Hong Son, Mae Sot, and Bangkok. The main areas of work include education, psychosocial services, protection, and emergency assistance. Job Scope/Objective

The Project Assistant, under the direct supervision of Coordinator, will support the planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of the Mother Tongue-Based Multilingual Education (MTB-MLE) project in Site1 and Site2. This position ensures additional support in education implementation of MTB-MLE curriculum as formulated by JRS partner, aligning with project goals, participate in stakeholder collaboration, and contributes to improving education outcomes through culturally and linguistically inclusive practices.

 

Key Responsibilities

1. Assist Project Coordinator in Project Management & Implementation

  • Support the overall timely project implementation of MTB-MLE to achieve project objectives and outcomes.
  • Provide field inputs and achievement data to Coordinator to better plan, coordinate, and execute activities under the MTB-MLE project according to timelines and budgets.
  • Ensure that project activities are carried out in according with planned objectives and in line with organizational policies and donor requirements.
  • Implement monthly activities as developed jointly with coordinator based on detailed project work plans and schedules.
  • Take key lead in Coordinating with teachers, trainers, and field staff for effective project delivery.
  • Provide regular update and monthly report to supervisor for the progress and adjustments made during implementation

 

2. Stakeholder Engagement

  • Support Coordinator in Liaising with community leaders, local government officials, and other stakeholders to foster support for MTB-MLE initiatives.
  • Jointly conduct workshops, focus groups, and consultations to build community awareness and participation

 

3. Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E)

  • Update periodic key achievement and data to Coordinator in accordance with project design and implementation plans.
  • Monitor project progress and collect data on key indicators such as student enrolment, retention, and performance.
  • Evaluate the impact of interventions, ensuring they address the needs of the community effectively.

 

4. Capacity Building

  • Participate in capacity building training and gradually be ready to conduct training sessions independently for teachers on the development of instructional materials in mother tongues.
  • Support local educators in creating and using culturally relevant teaching materials.
  • Provide guidance on integrating multilingual teaching methods into the curriculum.

 

5. Reporting and Documentation

  • Prepare periodic progress reports for internal review and donor submission.
  • Document success stories, lessons learned, and best practices to inform future programming.
  • Maintain accurate records of project activities, expenditures, and stakeholder feedback.

 

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Candidate must be Thai citizen or permanent resident.
  • Bachelor’s degree in education, or equivalence such as Project Management, Social Sciences or related fields.
  • At least 3–5 years of experience in project coordination, preferably in education or multilingual initiatives.
  • Experience in monitoring and evaluation of education programs is highly desirable.

 

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong understanding of multilingual and culturally responsive education principles.
  • Proficiency in designing and managing M&E framework
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to write clear, concise, and impactful reports.
  • Proficiency in relevant software for project management and data analysis (e.g., MS Excel,Tableau, or similar).

 

Languages

  • Fluency in English is required.
  • Proficiency in one or more local languages is highly advantageous
  • Ability to read and write Burmese, Kayah and S’gaw Karen (Paku) languages

  • Timely delivery of project milestones.
  • Increased participation and retention rates in MTB-MLE programs.
  • High quality of data collection and reporting.
  • Positive feedback from stakeholders and beneficiaries.
