Job Brief:  

IJM Foundation is seeking a Thai-Myanmar language Social Worker & Interpreter to provide Thai-Myanmar language spoken interpretation services for IJM Foundation staff, government and non-government partners and labor trafficking survivor clients in support of IJM Foundation casework objectives. Under the direction of the Head of Legal and Aftercare, the Social Worker & Interpreter will also support in providing crisis care and aftercare services to clients and monitoring and following up on their case.  The Social Worker & Interpreter will interact directly with clients inside and outside of Thai courts and government shelters for victims of human trafficking.  The position is based in Bangkok, Thailand and will require travel in Thailand. This position reports to the Head of Legal and Aftercare.

 

Key Result Areas:

  1. Participate in rescue operations and assist with pre-rescue, rescue and post-rescue processes.
  2. Support the provision of IJM Foundation programs and aftercare services.
  3. Interpret from Thai to Myanmar language and vice versa during meetings and/or court proceedings

Roles and Responsibilities:

Networking & Partnership

  1. Coordinate with IJM Foundation Social Workers and aftercare partners to ensure the well-being and restoration of clients, including monitoring victim care, visiting clients, and assisting with emergencies.
  2. Network with various government and non-governmental organization personnel to promote effective intervention and healing for clients.

Casework

Aftercare Services:

  1. Participate in rescue operations and assist with pre-rescue, rescue and post-rescue processes.
  2. Support the provision of IJM Foundation programs and aftercare services.
  3. Accompany clients to court proceedings, medical visits, temporary and/or permanent shelter placements or other necessary locations.
  4. Assist in following up with clients by visiting them in Thai government shelters or other locations.
  5. Assist in providing or facilitating crisis care, legal counseling, medical care, shelter services and education or life skills training to rescue victims.
  6. Assist the assigned lawyer in designing appropriate intervention strategies to achieve justice for clients in cases assigned.
  7. Engage, prepare and support clients for testifying in court in collaboration with aftercare partners and the IJM Foundation legal and law enforcement development departments.

Interpreter Services:

  1. Interpret from Thai to Myanmar language and vice versa during meetings and/or court proceedings, providing clear and accurate interpretation, with no additions or omissions.
  2. Maintain confidentiality and interact with clients as well as government and non-government partners in a professional manner.
  3. Understand terminology in the following areas: Social Services, Legal/Law, Police / Law Enforcement, Human Trafficking, Court / Judicial System.
  4. Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Documentation, Reporting & Data Management

  1. Maintain accurate case files and documents for clients.
  2. Maintain and update IJM Foundation’s case management system database for assigned cases.

Supervisory:

No roles report to this position.

Education & Experience:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in related field or significant relevant work experience.
  2. Possesses a Thai Social Work License

Technical Competencies:

  1. Fluency in spoken Thai and Myanmar language; proficiency in written Myanmar preferred.
  2. Proficiency in spoken and written English strongly preferred.
  3. Computer literate with proficiency in Microsoft Office (specifically Word and Outlook), email and other related applications preferred.

  1. Excellent interpersonal skills, cross-cultural communication, and experience or desire to work comfortably within a multi-ethnic and multi-disciplinary team;
