In our commitment to help those most in need in their right to education, Help without Frontiers Foundation Thailand is looking for a project assistant for our Education team.
REPORTS TO: MLC Project Coordinator
LIAISES WITH: Project Coordinators, Education Programme Manager, Other HwF Managers and Staff
OBJECTIVE:
Take a supportive role in assisting the MLC Project Coordinator to organise, facilitate, implement, and report on the 12 Ray of Hope Schools (Migrant Learning Centres) in Mae Sot, Mae Ramat and Phop Phra, overseen by Help without Frontiers.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Connect and follow up with project activities of the Education program.
Translate documents (reports, meeting notes, agendas etc.) in Burmese and English.
Facilitate work flows between HwF and Ray of Hope (RoH) schools and teachers.
Organise and plan for the training of teachers in RoH schools.
Communicate, share information and participate in meetings with Thai and Myanmar Ministries of Education.
Update information from individual schools over the course of the school year.
Support the partnerships of HwF with NGOs and local CBOs.
Assist the project coordinator and the programme manager in the reporting of activities and projects as well as project proposals.
TASKS:
The Project Assistant takes on a supportive role in the coordination of the support of HwF's programme with Migrant Learning Centres (MLCs). The Project Assistant helps the MLC Coordinator, the Education team and other HwF departments in various tasks.
Specific tasks to be performed in collaboration with the MLC team:
Support meetings with school Headmasters, bus drivers, and teachers.
Support on RoH school and dormitory renovation issues.
Support training of teachers and school Headmasters.
Manage, organise and follow up on teacher training carried out by local partner organisations.
Support preparations and facilitation of the Yearly Teacher Orientation conference.
Prepare scholarships for students in RoH schools.
Visit communities in Mae Sot, Phop Phra and Mae Ramat, including RoH school Headmaster trip.
Participate in RoH school activities and ceremonies (opening and closing ceremonies, and others).
Work together with the Myanmar Ministry of Education in carrying out the Board exams and pre-tests in the MLC program.
Attend meetings with the Ministry of Education.
Support the Education Programme Manager in various other tasks where appropriate, and support other projects/programs within HwF (Rays of Youth, Health, Child Protection, Admin/Finance) when needed.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
Good oral and written communication skills.
Ability to speak, write, and report in Myanmar and English languages. Other languages such as Thai are also desirable.
Proficiency in basic office computer programs, such as Microsoft Word and Excel.
Ability to participate in team and professional development activities.
Prior experience working with education projects.
Ability to comply with all organisational policies and procedures, legislation and agreements, including reporting policy, child protection policy, and health and safety requirements.
Ability to work collaboratively with HwF management and other members of staff to achieve continuous improvement in service delivery to migrant communities.
Able to collaborate with others well in the office as well as in the field, including with other NGOs, government bodies and community members.
Can perform well under pressure and meet deadlines.
Free to travel to field sites in and around the Mae Sot border area.
Flexibility in planning and carrying out program activities, including occasional weekend work.
Driver's license is a plus.
