In Thailand, ACTED intervenes in the Deep South of Thailand (Pattani, Narathiwat and Yala) since 2018; also providing vocational training and facilitating access to livelihood for vulnerable youth as a means to address youth unemployment in the South. ACTED is currently looking for 1 Thai national individual to fill the position of Internship Officer. The position is not remunerated but is created to lead to a recruitment, depending on funding availability.

 

Job Purpose

 

Based in Pattani, the Internship Officer, under operational guidance of the Project Manager.

 

The Internship Project Officer ensures that the objectives/results of the internship scheme of the project are met to the satisfaction of all stakeholders. The job demands frequent interaction with beneficiaries, local Vocational Training Colleges (VTCs) and local business to ensure the overall success and smooth running of the project.  The post holder is also responsible for the wellbeing of the interns throughout their participation in the scheme.

Chain of Command & Working Relations:

 

Under the authority of: Project Manager

Line management: Partner CSO, intern as relevant

Internal relations: Project Teams, HR and logistics, Reporting, Monitoring and Evaluation

External relations: beneficiaries relevant national and local stakeholders, national and international partner organizations.

 

 

Duties and responsibilities

 

Project implementation

  • Liaise with private business and identify internship opportunities for graduates from vocational training courses; formalize partnerships with these business through contracts; manage database of private businesses to monitor our relations
  • Liaise with state and non-state actors to get all relevant permissions to conduct internships;
  • Provide orientation and life-skill training of interns before placement within private businesses;
  • Monitor the interns and business owners during the internships to ensure they provide timely and adequate mentoring to students, and provide counselling and support for interns when necessary 
  • Organize all logistics for the internships, including transport, accommodation, etc.
  • Organize the Small Enterprise Development activities (participate in logistic organization, students and business selection, planning, budgeting and follow up of the SED groups)
  • Ensure protection of interns from abuse in the workplace;
  • Regularly debrief with business about interns’ performance and behaviour in the workplace;
  • Plan and schedule all the project activities within the deadline of the projects and according to the ACTED procedures;
  • Assure project activities are being implemented based on time frames and requirements laid down in relevant project proposals / intervention strategies;
  • Work closely with ACTED’s Reporting and Monitoring and Evaluation Unit in order to ensure clear monitoring, identify and apply the lessons learnt;
  • Prepare regular reports and briefings for the Country Director as well as Weekly Base Meeting and assist in preparation of donor reports as necessary;

  • Adhere to HAP standards;

 

Accountability to Communities and Beneficiaries

  • The staff member is responsible for ensuring that all relations with the communities we work are conducted in a respectful and consultative manner. Due attention must be paid to ensuring that communities are adequately and informed about ACTED programme objectives, activities, beneficiary selection criteria and methodologies. This is the responsibility of every ACTED staff member;

 

 

Required Skills

  1. Languages: Thai (required), English (required), Malay (preferred)
  2. At least Bachelors’ Degree in the field of Business Management; International Development, International Relations, Humanitarian Affairs or related;
  3. Experience with CSO or NGO, preferably international, preferred.
  4. Understanding of local context in the Deep South of Thailand
  5. Selected candidates will be vetted to reflect our commitment to protect children from abuse
